Ashghal and the Scientific Club recently concluded the “Future Engineer 3” Programme in Doha, Qatar. The initiative involved 30 students between the ages of 14 to 18 years who had the opportunity to learn about various engineering disciplines and working environments. The program featured 20 trainers from Ashghal and the Qatar Scientific Club who led 15 workshops and organized 3 field visits to Ashghal worksites. The goal of the program was to enhance students’ knowledge of engineering disciplines, project management, and prepare them for the future job market.

During the program, participants had the opportunity to visit Ashghal laboratories and departments, where they were exposed to the latest technology such as drones used by the Authority. They also learned about safety rules and inspection techniques for measuring the quality of treated groundwater. Additionally, students visited the Rainfall Emergency Room and the Road and Drainage Networks Department Centres in Asset Affairs, where they received workshops on sustainability, project planning, and prototyping designs under the guidance of Qatari engineers.

The highlight of the program was the Sustainability and Construction Hackathon, where students were tasked with finding innovative solutions to construction-related problems. Projects that qualified for the final stage of the hackathon included a helmet cooling project, a sustainable engineering building project, a roadblocks project, an interlock formation project using recycled materials, and an air quality sensor project. These projects were recognized for their innovation, engineering design, use of recycled materials, and overall ingenuity.

Dr. Ali Al Marri, Quality and Safety Department Manager at Ashghal, expressed the Authority’s commitment to working with educational institutions to enhance students’ knowledge of engineering disciplines and prepare them for future careers in the field. Eng. Abdulrahman Khamis, Deputy Executive Director of Qatar Scientific Club, highlighted the success of the program and the importance of promoting engineering as a means of building and developing the country while also considering aesthetics.

Overall, the “Future Engineer 3” Programme was a resounding success thanks to the cooperation and coordination between Ashghal and the Scientific Club. Participants gained valuable insights into the world of engineering, acquired practical skills and experiences, and demonstrated a strong willingness to engage with the program. The initiative not only prepared students for future career opportunities but also fostered innovation, creativity, and collaboration among the future generation of engineers in Qatar.
