The Arab League has expressed its support for Qatar and Egypt in their efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire and restore normalcy in Gaza. Resolution No. 9059 was issued during an extraordinary session of the Council of the Arab League, which was convened at the request of the State of Palestine due to ongoing genocidal crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people for nearly nine consecutive months. The Council also warned against Israel’s continued genocide in Gaza and its plans to annex West Bank territories.

In addition to condemning Israel’s refusal to comply with UN Security Council resolutions calling for a ceasefire, the Council highlighted the aggressive policies and measures taken by the Israeli government against Palestine. These include the legalization of five settlement outposts in strategic areas of the occupied West Bank, the construction of thousands of new settlement units, and the undermining of the civil and economic authority of the Palestinian government over 80% of the occupied territories.

The Council affirmed that any Israeli government action to annex part of the occupied Palestinian territory of 1967, whether de facto or through invalid legislation, would constitute a new war crime. It called on the international community to pressure Israel to halt its unlawful annexation and colonial settlement practices, which undermine opportunities for achieving peace and a two-state solution.

Overall, the Arab League’s Resolution No. 9059 underscores the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as the need for international intervention to halt Israel’s actions and hold it accountable for its crimes. The resolution emphasizes the importance of achieving a permanent ceasefire and restoring normalcy in the region, while condemning Israel’s refusal to comply with relevant UN resolutions. The Council also condemns Israel’s aggressive policies against Palestine, including its annexation and settlement practices, and calls for deterrent measures to compel Israel to change its course.

In conclusion, the Arab League’s stance on the situation in Gaza and the West Bank highlights the urgent need for international intervention to address Israel’s actions and support the Palestinian people. The resolution emphasizes the importance of achieving a permanent ceasefire, restoring normalcy in the region, and holding Israel accountable for its crimes. The Council’s condemnation of Israel’s aggressive policies and its call for the international community to pressure Israel to halt its unlawful practices demonstrate a commitment to promoting peace and a two-state solution in the region.
