Passengers at Henri Coandă International Airport in Bucharest faced frustration on Monday as multiple Tarom Airlines flights were cancelled due to pilots reporting sick en masse. The union representing the pilots demanded better wages, leading to speculation of a possible strike. The cancelled flights caused anxiety among passengers, including those who were supposed to attend the NATO summit in Washington. Many passengers were left waiting for hours without any information from the airline.

The cancelled flights included one that was meant to transport the Romanian foreign affairs and defence ministers to the NATO summit in Washington. Passengers waiting since early morning expressed their frustration at the lack of communication from Tarom Airlines. Some passengers vowed to seek reimbursement for their tickets, as they had never experienced such disruptions before. The situation was further exacerbated by the lack of clarity from the airline and government officials.

Romanian Minister of Transport Sorin Grindeanu issued an ultimatum to the management of Tarom Airlines in response to the ongoing situation. The United Tarom Union, representing the pilots, has not formally announced any demands, but reports suggest that salary increases have been a point of contention for union members. The possible strike has caused uncertainty and inconvenience for passengers, highlighting the need for ongoing negotiations between the union and the airline management to prevent further disruptions.

Despite the frustration and anxiety experienced by passengers at Henri Coandă International Airport, the union representing Tarom Airlines pilots has not officially declared a labour dispute. However, internal sources have indicated that a strike announcement could be forthcoming. The lack of communication from both the airline and the union has left passengers stranded and seeking answers as they wait for updates on their flights.

As passengers waited for hours without any information, many expressed their disappointment at the lack of transparency from Tarom Airlines. Some passengers had been waiting since early morning, only to find out that their flights were cancelled due to pilot sickness. The uncertainty surrounding the situation left many travelers questioning the reliability of the airline and the effectiveness of their communication with customers.

The ongoing situation at Henri Coandă International Airport has highlighted the need for improved dialogue between the union, airline management, and government officials to prevent further disruptions. As passengers continue to face uncertainty and frustration, it is crucial for all parties involved to work towards a resolution that prioritizes the well-being of travelers and ensures the smooth operation of flights in the future. The demand for better wages by the pilots reflects broader issues within the airline industry, emphasizing the importance of fair compensation and working conditions for all employees.
