The Saudi Energy Efficiency Center recently announced that starting January 1, 2025, the energy efficiency card will be mandatory for dishwashers at all points of sale in the Kingdom. Consumers looking to purchase dishwashers are encouraged to ensure that the energy efficiency card label is available with the device to report any discrepancies. The card contains essential information about the dishwasher, such as its type, model, brand, electrical energy consumption, and test specifications. In collaboration with various government agencies, the center has launched a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of the energy efficiency card in improving energy consumption in the Kingdom.

This awareness campaign is an extension of previous efforts initiated in 2014 under the National Campaign for Rationalizing Energy Consumption. The main goal of the campaign is to educate the public about the energy efficiency card’s necessity at points of sale, as well as its contents, implications, and significance in helping consumers make informed choices. Messages within the campaign promote positive behaviors to reduce energy consumption in dishwashers and emphasize the importance of checking for the energy efficiency card using the “Taakad” application before making a purchase to select a device with a green level of efficiency.

The Saudi Energy Efficiency Center, established in 2010, aims to promote energy efficiency in both production and consumption. The center’s collaboration with government agencies such as the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, SASO, and the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority demonstrates a coordinated effort to improve energy consumption practices in the Kingdom. Through initiatives like the energy efficiency card for dishwashers, the center seeks to raise awareness and encourage responsible energy use among consumers.

With the launch of this campaign, the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center hopes to guide consumers towards choosing energy-efficient dishwashers by showcasing the importance of the energy efficiency card. By providing key information about the device and encouraging consumers to use the Taakad app to verify the card’s presence, the center aims to promote sustainable energy consumption across the Kingdom. As the campaign unfolds over 11 days, it will continue to educate the community on the benefits of energy-efficient appliances and the role individuals can play in reducing overall energy consumption.

As technology continues to evolve, energy efficiency becomes increasingly important in mitigating environmental impact and reducing energy costs. The Saudi Energy Efficiency Center’s efforts to mandate the energy efficiency card for dishwashers underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to sustainable energy practices and responsible consumer choices. By working in partnership with government agencies and raising awareness among consumers, the center aims to drive positive change in energy consumption habits, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable future for Saudi Arabia.
