Oman is actively investing in crucial infrastructure projects to secure its water future, and the latest developments in Al Khabourah are a prime example. Nama Water Services is spearheading efforts to enhance water security and improve the sustainability of water services across the nation, with a recently completed major transmission line and ongoing distribution network expansions. This commitment directly addresses the increasing demand for water resources driven by population growth and economic development in regions like Al Khabourah.

Strengthening Water Infrastructure in Al Khabourah

The Wilayat of Al Khabourah is experiencing significant growth, necessitating upgrades to its existing water infrastructure. Nama Water Services is responding with a comprehensive plan that includes constructing new water distribution networks to reach previously unserved residential areas. These networks are designed to support both current and future needs, providing a reliable and consistent water supply for residents and businesses.

Expansion Across Multiple Schemes

Currently, work is progressing steadily on projects in the Al Qasf scheme, Al Qasf village, and Dhahrat Al Tawi. Eng. Ibrahim Said Al Ghunaimi, Project Manager, confirmed a 31% completion rate, with the total project cost exceeding RO 1.5 million. The focus is on establishing a robust network capable of handling increased consumption while maintaining water quality.

Connecting Wilayats and Desalination Plants

This initiative isn’t solely about expanding access within Al Khabourah. It’s a strategic move to integrate water networks across different wilayats, linking them to vital desalination plants. This interconnectedness strengthens overall water resource management and bolsters water supply resilience, ensuring that communities have access to water even during periods of drought or high demand. According to Al Ghunaimi, this integration is key to achieving national water security goals and creating synergy between essential services, achieved through close collaboration with relevant authorities.

Project Details: A Comprehensive Approach

The project’s scope is extensive, demonstrating Nama Water Services’ dedication to delivering a high-quality and long-lasting solution. Over 483 house connections are planned, directly benefiting approximately 2,500 people across the targeted areas. This expansion will significantly improve the quality of life for residents, providing access to a fundamental necessity.

Beyond individual connections, the project includes the laying of over 69 kilometers of distribution lines and internal networks. This vast infrastructure will form the backbone of the improved water delivery system. Furthermore, two booster pumping stations, each with a capacity of 100 cubic meters per hour, will be constructed to ensure adequate water pressure throughout the network. Modern water sterilization systems are also being implemented to guarantee the delivery of safe, potable water.

Leveraging Technology for Efficient Management

Nama Water Services is embracing cutting-edge technology to optimize the performance of the new infrastructure. The project will be fully integrated with the National Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, located in Muscat Governorate. This connection will enable real-time monitoring and control of the facilities, allowing for proactive maintenance and efficient resource allocation. The SCADA system will play a crucial role in minimizing water loss and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the network.

Boosting the Local Economy and Community

The benefits of this project extend far beyond improved water infrastructure. Nama Water Services is committed to supporting the local economy and fostering community development. A significant portion of the project work, valued at RO 250,000, has been awarded to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within the Wilayat of Al Khabourah. This provides a vital boost to local businesses and encourages entrepreneurship.

Additionally, the project contributes to In-Country Value (ICV), currently standing at approximately RO 267,700. This represents the economic benefit retained within Oman through the use of local materials, services, and labor. To date, the project has created 10 direct job opportunities for citizens of Al Khabourah, with expectations for this number to grow as work progresses. It also stimulates indirect employment through increased commercial and service activity.

Nama Water Services is not merely building a water network; it’s investing in the future of Al Khabourah, creating a more sustainable, resilient, and prosperous community. Through strategic infrastructure development and a commitment to local partnerships, they are working diligently towards enhanced water security for the region.

This continued investment in water infrastructure across Oman underscores the nation’s commitment to providing essential services to its citizens and supporting economic growth. Stay updated on the progress of this and other vital projects by visiting the Nama Water Services website or following local news outlets. Your engagement and awareness can help ensure these initiatives continue to thrive and deliver lasting benefits to communities like Al Khabourah.
