The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) in Qatar is actively developing road and infrastructure networks in the Jeryan Nejaima area to accommodate a growing residential population. This ongoing project focuses on enhancing connectivity, improving traffic flow, and bolstering essential utility services for citizens. The comprehensive upgrades to the Jeryan Nejaima infrastructure are expected to significantly impact the quality of life for residents and support future development in the region.

Currently underway, the project impacts approximately 624 residential plots and involves substantial construction and network installation. Ashghal anticipates improvements in road safety and access to public amenities once completed. The work is being carried out in phases, with some areas already undergoing preparation for deeper infrastructure work.

Extensive Road and Utility Improvements in Jeryan Nejaima

The scope of the Jeryan Nejaima infrastructure project is considerable, encompassing 22 kilometers of new road construction. This includes paving, signage, and the installation of 677 new lighting poles to improve visibility and safety during nighttime hours. Additionally, the project will provide approximately 2,800 dedicated parking spaces to address current and future parking demands.

However, the project extends far beyond just roadways. A critical component involves the installation of extensive underground utility networks. These networks are designed to support the increasing demands of a modern residential area and ensure reliable services for years to come.

Drainage and Water Networks

Ashghal is constructing 20 kilometers of stormwater drainage networks to mitigate flooding risks during periods of heavy rainfall. This is particularly important in Qatar’s climate, where flash floods can occur. Alongside this, a 15-kilometer treated water network will provide residents with access to non-potable water for irrigation and other uses, promoting water conservation.

Furthermore, a 16-kilometer sewage network is being installed to improve sanitation and wastewater management. These interconnected systems represent a significant investment in the long-term sustainability and public health of the Jeryan Nejaima community. The integration of these networks is a key aspect of Qatar’s National Development Strategy.

Landscaping and Environmental Considerations

The project also includes substantial landscaping work, with plans to plant 449 trees throughout the area. This greening initiative aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal of Jeryan Nejaima and contribute to a more sustainable urban environment. According to Ashghal, the selection of tree species is based on their suitability to the local climate and their ability to provide shade and reduce the urban heat island effect.

Currently, crews are focused on removing existing asphalt layers in specific zones to facilitate the laying of new utility pipes. Deep excavation is also underway in other locations to accommodate the stormwater and treated water drainage systems. This preparatory work is essential before the installation of the new infrastructure can begin.

The development of infrastructure in areas like Jeryan Nejaima is a key part of Qatar’s broader strategy to support its growing population and diversify its economy. Improved road networks and reliable utility services are fundamental to attracting investment and fostering a high quality of life. The project also aligns with Qatar’s commitment to sustainable urban development, as evidenced by the inclusion of water conservation measures and landscaping initiatives.

Looking ahead, Ashghal will continue to progress with the installation of underground networks and road construction. While a specific completion date has not been announced, the authority is working to minimize disruption to residents during the construction phase. Stakeholders will be watching for updates on project timelines and any potential challenges related to material supply or labor availability, which could impact the overall schedule.

The successful implementation of this project will not only benefit the residents of Jeryan Nejaima but also contribute to the overall development of Qatar’s infrastructure and its ability to host major international events. Further details about the project can be found on the Ashghal website. The ongoing improvements to public infrastructure are vital for Qatar’s future.
