Oman is rapidly transforming into a digitally connected nation, and at the forefront of this evolution is Oman Broadband. The company is embarking on an ambitious three-year plan to extend its high-speed fiber-optic network, aiming to connect one million residential units across the Sultanate. This significant investment in fiber optic infrastructure isn’t just about faster internet; it’s a cornerstone of Oman’s economic diversification and improved quality of life for its citizens.

Oman Broadband’s Nationwide Expansion Strategy

Eng. Sultan Ahmed Al Wahibi, CEO of Oman Broadband, recently announced that the company had already connected 926,884 residential units to its fiber-optic network as of the end of November 2025. This impressive figure breaks down to 415,792 units in the Muscat Governorate and 511,092 units in the rest of the Sultanate. The company’s commitment to expanding access to reliable, high-speed internet is clearly bearing fruit.

Subscriber Growth and Service Quality

The expansion isn’t just about laying cables; it’s about attracting users. Oman Broadband has surpassed a major milestone, reaching 326,406 active subscribers – exceeding the 320,000 mark for the first time in its history. This growth demonstrates a strong demand for the services offered and validates the effectiveness of the company’s strategy to deliver superior service quality. The increasing subscriber base is a direct result of improved network availability and performance.

Focus on Muscat and Beyond

While significant progress has been made nationwide, Oman Broadband is strategically focusing on increasing coverage in key areas. Currently, over 87% of residential units in the Muscat Governorate are covered by the fiber optic network. Outside of Muscat, coverage stands at approximately 56% of total units, indicating a substantial opportunity for growth. The company recognizes the importance of bridging the digital divide and ensuring that all regions of Oman benefit from high-speed connectivity.

The plan to connect one million homes over the next three years will require continued investment and collaboration. Oman Broadband is actively seeking partnerships with various stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of this ambitious goal. This collaborative approach is vital for navigating logistical challenges and maximizing the impact of the expansion.

Developing Smart City Infrastructure

Oman Broadband is playing a crucial role in the development of Oman’s future cities. The company is currently working on deploying advanced digital networks in Sultan Haitham City, Al Khuwair Downtown, and the A’Thuraya City project. These projects are being designed to meet the rigorous standards of smart cities, ensuring that the underlying infrastructure is prepared for future technological advancements.

This forward-thinking approach will provide high-speed internet access for essential services like education, healthcare, and government operations, as well as supporting the growth of businesses and enhancing the overall living experience for residents. The integration of high-speed internet into these new urban centers is a key component of Oman’s Vision 2040.

Significant Investment and Economic Contribution

Since its establishment in 2014, Oman Broadband has invested over RO 327 million in developing the Sultanate’s telecommunications sector. This substantial financial commitment underscores the company’s dedication to enhancing the digital infrastructure and driving economic growth. These investments are not only benefiting consumers but also creating employment opportunities and fostering innovation.

Recent Expansion and Localization Efforts

The expansion of the Oman Broadband network continued throughout 2025, with a particular focus on the Musandam Governorate. The wilayats of Bukha and Dibba were recently included in the network coverage, building on the completion of work in Khasab and Madha in previous phases. This phased approach allows for efficient deployment and ensures that the network is built to meet the specific needs of each region.

Furthermore, Oman Broadband is committed to supporting the local economy. The company boasts an Omanization rate exceeding 99% of its national workforce, demonstrating its dedication to employing and developing Omani talent. Additionally, 39% of the work awarded by Oman Broadband goes to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with ongoing initiatives to help these businesses grow and compete on an international scale.

Community Engagement and Sustainable Development

Oman Broadband recognizes its responsibility to contribute to the social and economic well-being of the communities it serves. The company actively supports various community initiatives and social investment programs focused on education, health, sports, and youth empowerment. These efforts are designed to promote sustainable development and improve the quality of life for all Omanis.

In conclusion, Oman Broadband is a vital engine for digital transformation in the Sultanate of Oman. Its ambitious expansion plans, coupled with its commitment to service quality, economic diversification, and community engagement, are positioning Oman as a leader in the region’s digital economy. The continued rollout of its fiber optic infrastructure will undoubtedly unlock new opportunities for growth and innovation, benefiting both individuals and businesses across the nation.
