The Imam Jabir bin Zaid Waqf Foundation recently hosted its fourth annual ceremony in A’Seeb, Oman, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to community development through the Islamic practice of Waqf. The event, held under the patronage of Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, showcased the Foundation’s achievements over the past year and unveiled ambitious plans for expanded community partnerships. This annual gathering underscores the growing importance of Waqf as a powerful tool for social and economic progress within the Sultanate.

Strengthening Community Impact Through Waqf in A’Seeb

The Imam Jabir bin Zaid Waqf Foundation’s annual ceremony isn’t merely a celebratory event; it’s a strategic review and a platform for forging stronger ties with key stakeholders. This year’s event, held in the Wilayat of A’Seeb, highlighted the Foundation’s dedication to enhancing its developmental role in community service. The focus remains on supporting local initiatives and building robust partnerships with government entities, the private sector, and civil society organizations – all aligned with the core mission of the Foundation.

Digital Transformation for Enhanced Efficiency

A key theme emerging from the ceremony was the Foundation’s commitment to digital transformation. Executive management has prioritized the implementation of advanced technologies to ensure precision in data and operations management. This strategic shift has demonstrably improved performance quality, accelerated execution speeds, and bolstered the reliability of information. This modernization is crucial for maximizing the impact of Waqf resources and ensuring transparency in all operations.

Forging Strategic Partnerships for Sustainable Development

The ceremony was punctuated by the signing of several significant agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), signaling a period of collaborative growth for the Foundation. These partnerships are designed to address critical needs and promote sustainable development across various sectors.

Key Agreements and Collaborations

One notable agreement was forged with Sultan Qaboos University to support the “Quranic Licenses” project and provide Tajweed courses. This collaboration aims to promote religious education and cultural preservation. Furthermore, a cooperation agreement was established to support “Sukoon Al Rahma” (Mercy Housing) at the Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre, in partnership with the University Medical City. This initiative directly addresses the needs of cancer patients and their families, providing vital support during challenging times.

Additionally, the Foundation solidified its commitment to the healthcare sector through an MoU with “Athar” Health Waqf Foundation. This partnership will enhance integration in health endowments, enabling a more effective response to contemporary health challenges and contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals. A further MoU with Bousher Waqf Foundation aims to establish a strong institutional cooperation framework, elevating the entire endowment sector in Oman and ensuring its long-term sustainability and adherence to Sharia principles.

Expanding Reach Through ‘Atta’ Initiatives and Knowledge Sharing

The Foundation’s commitment to direct community support was evident in the handover of “Atta” (Giving) initiatives to various charity teams across Oman’s governorates. These initiatives provide crucial support for education and humanitarian aid, directly impacting the lives of those in need. This demonstrates the practical application of charitable giving principles at the grassroots level.

Sharia Compliance and Best Practices

Recognizing the importance of sound legal and ethical foundations, the event also featured a Sharia workshop titled “Between Waqf and Will: Sharia Regulations and Practical Applications.” Led by Dr. Ahmed bin Salim Al Kharousi from Sultan Qaboos University, the workshop, attended by over 100 participants, clarified the legal distinctions between endowments (Waqf) and wills (Wasiyya). It also addressed common errors in drafting and presented real-world practical models, ensuring that all Waqf activities are fully compliant with Sharia law.

A dialogue session between the Foundation and its partners further facilitated the discussion of strategic directions and the development of future endowment projects. This collaborative approach ensures that the Foundation remains responsive to community needs and continues to innovate in its approach to Islamic finance and social responsibility.

Looking Ahead: A Future Built on Waqf

The Imam Jabir bin Zaid Waqf Foundation’s fourth annual ceremony in A’Seeb was a resounding success, demonstrating the power of Waqf to drive positive change within the Sultanate of Oman. The Foundation’s focus on digital transformation, strategic partnerships, and Sharia compliance positions it for continued growth and impact. By strengthening its role in community development and expanding its reach through initiatives like “Atta,” the Foundation is actively contributing to a more prosperous and equitable future for all Omanis. We encourage individuals and organizations interested in supporting these vital initiatives to explore partnership opportunities with the Imam Jabir bin Zaid Waqf Foundation and learn more about the transformative potential of Waqf.
