Doha, Qatar – Al Arabi secured their second consecutive handball title, winning the Men’s Handball Federation Cup for the 2025-2026 season on Tuesday. The team defeated Al Duhail 36-26 in the final match held at the Duhail Sports Hall, solidifying their position as a dominant force in Qatari handball competition. This victory marks Al Arabi’s fifth title in the tournament’s history.

The championship game took place during a break in the general league schedule, allowing key players to prepare for upcoming international commitments. Yousef Al Hail, Executive Director of the Qatar Handball Federation, and Matar Thani, Head of the Federation’s Referees Committee, presented the awards following the match. Al Wakrah claimed third place earlier in the day with a 33-28 win over Al Shamal.

Al Arabi’s Dominant Performance in the Federation Cup

Al Arabi demonstrated consistent strength throughout the final, establishing a 16-13 lead in the first half. They continued to build on this advantage in the second half, ultimately securing a decisive ten-goal victory over Al Duhail. The team’s cohesive strategy and strong offensive play proved too much for their opponents.

According to reports, Al Arabi’s success can be attributed to a combination of experienced players and effective coaching. Their ability to maintain possession and capitalize on scoring opportunities was a key factor in their win. This win further cements Al Arabi’s reputation as a leading sports club in Qatar.

Impact of the Tournament Break

The timing of the Men’s Handball Federation Cup was strategically aligned with a pause in the regular league season. This allowed players to focus on preparations for the 22nd Asian Men’s Handball Championship, scheduled for January in Kuwait. The Asian Championship also serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2027 World Championship, which will be hosted in Germany.

The break provided an opportunity for the Qatari national team to refine their tactics and build team cohesion. The Federation hopes that the increased focus on national team preparation will translate into a strong performance at the Asian Championship. This focus on international sporting events highlights Qatar’s commitment to developing its handball program.

Meanwhile, Al Wakrah’s third-place finish demonstrates the growing competitiveness within the Qatari handball league. Their victory over Al Shamal indicates a rising level of skill and dedication among the teams. The increased competition is expected to benefit the national team program by providing a larger pool of talented players.

In contrast to some other regional leagues, the Qatari Handball Federation has prioritized consistent development and investment in its athletes. This commitment has resulted in improved performances on both the domestic and international stages. The Federation’s long-term strategy appears to be yielding positive results.

The upcoming Asian Men’s Handball Championship in Kuwait will be a crucial test for the Qatari national team. Their performance will determine their qualification for the 2027 World Championship. The team’s success will depend on their ability to translate their training into effective gameplay against strong regional opponents. The results in Kuwait will be closely watched by handball fans across the region.

Looking ahead, the Qatar Handball Federation will likely focus on continued player development and strengthening the domestic league. Further investment in youth programs and coaching initiatives is anticipated. The long-term goal remains to establish Qatar as a leading force in Asian and global handball. The next steps involve finalizing the national team roster and continuing intensive training sessions in preparation for the Asian Championship.
