Doha, Qatar – Qatar Museums (QM) and Dukhan Bank have announced a significant partnership to bolster the nation’s cultural landscape, specifically supporting the development of Dadu, Children’s Museum of Qatar, and a new institution dedicated to numismatics. The collaboration, formalized in a signing ceremony yesterday at the National Museum of Qatar, underscores a commitment to Qatar’s cultural vision and sustainable development goals. This investment will play a key role in enriching the country’s offerings for both residents and tourists.

The agreement will see Dukhan Bank providing crucial financial support for both projects. In recognition of this generosity, the museum housing QM’s extensive collection of historic Islamic currency will be named the Dukhan Bank Qatar Numismatic Center. The partnership highlights the growing synergy between Qatar’s public and private sectors in advancing national priorities.

Qatar Museums Secures Funding for New Cultural Institutions

Qatar has been steadily investing in its cultural infrastructure as part of the Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy and promote a knowledge-based society. This latest partnership with Dukhan Bank is a testament to that ongoing commitment. The new institutions are designed to cater to diverse audiences, from young learners to academic researchers.

Dadu, Children’s Museum of Qatar, is envisioned as a pioneering space focused on holistic child development. According to QM officials, the museum will emphasize curiosity, creativity, and compassion through interactive exhibits and play-based learning experiences. The museum aims to become a leading destination for families and educators in the region.

The Significance of the Dukhan Bank Qatar Numismatic Center

The establishment of the Dukhan Bank Qatar Numismatic Center is particularly noteworthy given the historical and artistic value of Islamic currency. The collection held by Qatar Museums is considered one of the most comprehensive in the world, offering insights into trade, politics, and artistic traditions across centuries.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Jassim Al-Thani, Executive Board Member and Managing Director of Dukhan Bank, stated the bank’s contribution reflects a dedication to strengthening Qatar’s cultural foundations and preserving its heritage for future generations. This aligns with Dukhan Bank’s broader strategy of supporting initiatives that contribute to national development.

Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, President of the Dadu Advisory Committee, expressed gratitude for Dukhan Bank joining the museum’s “Founding Family.” He emphasized the vital role of the private sector in Qatar’s future success and acknowledged Dadu’s potential as a world-class institution. The involvement of private entities like Dukhan Bank is seen as crucial for the long-term sustainability of these cultural projects.

The partnership also reflects a broader trend of increased corporate social responsibility within Qatar. Companies are increasingly recognizing the importance of investing in cultural initiatives as a means of contributing to the nation’s identity and attracting international attention. This collaboration is expected to encourage further private sector engagement in supporting Qatar’s museums and cultural programs.

Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, highlighted the alignment of the partnership with the Qatar National Vision 2030. She noted that the new institutions will serve children, families, researchers, and those interested in the history of currency, fostering a thriving cultural ecosystem. The development of these institutions is expected to create new opportunities for education, research, and tourism.

Looking ahead, Qatar Museums will focus on the detailed planning and construction phases of both Dadu and the Dukhan Bank Qatar Numismatic Center. While specific timelines have not been released, the projects are anticipated to significantly enhance Qatar’s cultural offerings in the coming years. The progress of these projects and further details regarding their opening dates will be closely watched by stakeholders in the cultural and tourism sectors.
