Doha, Qatar – Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation and Education Above All Foundation, delivered a powerful call for global justice at the closing of the Doha Forum 2025 on Saturday. Held at the Sheraton Hotel, the forum centered on the theme “Justice in Action: Beyond Promises to Progress,” bringing together international leaders to discuss pressing world issues. Sheikha Moza’s remarks underscored the critical need for moving beyond rhetoric and embracing practical applications of fairness and equity on both national and international levels.

The closing session featured a high-level panel including the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the Vice President of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, and UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, further emphasizing the forum’s focus on conflict resolution and human rights. Discussions revolved around rebuilding trust in a world grappling with increasing instability and inequality.

The Urgent Need for Global Justice

Sheikha Moza’s address centered on the idea that justice is not merely an aspiration, but a fundamental value that must be actively practiced. She argued that the current international system frequently falls short of these principles, often ignoring observable injustices. According to Her Highness, simply raising slogans about fairness creates “empty promises and false commitments deliberately designed to remain unfulfilled.”

Her Highness emphasized the universality of the demand for justice, stating that it is essential for protecting vulnerable populations from those in power. This principle extends to international relations, where she asserted that no nation should be able to harm another with impunity due to its strength. This concern for equitable power dynamics is a recurring theme in Qatar’s foreign policy.

Justice and Education as Intertwined Goals

The speech highlighted a strong connection between justice and education. Sheikha Moza argued that securing access to quality education is vital for achieving genuine social justice. Neglecting education, she warned, leads to dependency and hinders progress, creating cycles of disadvantage.

Furthermore, Her Highness stressed the importance of education in preserving cultural identity. Protecting language, traditions, and heritage through education ensures societal safety and bolsters national security. Investment in education, therefore, is not just a social good, but a strategic imperative, aligning with Qatar’s ongoing efforts to promote educational initiatives globally through organizations like Education Above All.

The panel discussion, “A Future to Believe In: Rebuilding Trust through Shared Action,” echoed these concerns, exploring strategies to strengthen faith in international institutions and leadership. Participants addressed the growing challenges of conflicts, inequality, and declining confidence in global governance, discussing potential pathways to collaborative solutions. The panel emphasized the necessity of accountability and inclusive decision-making processes.

The Forum also touched upon related issues of global cooperation and sustainable development, framing these as integral components of a more just world order. Several attendees noted a shift in focus from solely economic considerations toward prioritizing human security and equitable access to resources.

Looking ahead, the outcomes of Doha Forum 2025 will likely inform Qatar’s continued engagement in international diplomacy and its support for organizations working to advance social justice initiatives. The impact of the forum’s discussions remains to be seen, particularly regarding the implementation of concrete policies to address the identified shortcomings in global governance. Further monitoring of the commitments made by participating nations and organizations will be crucial in assessing the long-term legacy of the event and the progress towards a more just and equitable world, especially in long-term conflict zones.
