Oman is gearing up for a spectacular 2025-2026 winter tourism season, with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism launching a comprehensive promotional campaign designed to solidify its position as a leading travel destination in the region. Building on a strong influx of visitors, the campaign will actively showcase Oman’s unique appeal – from its pleasant climate and stunning landscapes to its rich Oman tourism heritage and modern infrastructure. This strategic push aims to attract a diverse range of travelers and boost the nation’s economy.

Boosting Oman Tourism Through Strategic Initiatives

The Ministry’s plan isn’t just about attracting more visitors; it’s about attracting the *right* visitors – those who appreciate sustainable tourism and contribute positively to the local economy. The initiatives are directly aligned with the objectives of the National Strategy for Tourism 2040, focusing on sustainable growth, increased GDP contribution, and enhanced global visibility for the Sultanate. A key element of this strategy is highlighting Oman’s distinct advantages during the winter months, offering a compelling alternative to more crowded and often colder destinations.

Targeting Key Markets with Digital Campaigns

Recognizing the importance of reaching potential travelers where they are, the Ministry is heavily investing in digital marketing campaigns. These campaigns are specifically tailored to resonate with audiences in crucial markets including the GCC countries, Asia, and Europe. Short, engaging promotional videos are being created, with a deliberate effort to involve Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the content production process, fostering local economic participation. Social media will also play a vital role in disseminating information and inspiring travel plans.

A Diverse Range of Experiences

Oman’s appeal lies in its incredible diversity of experiences. The promotional efforts will emphasize a wide array of activities, catering to different interests and adventure levels. From the thrill of desert and mountain camping to the serenity of exploring caves, pristine beaches, and observing local wildlife, there’s something for everyone. Furthermore, the campaign will actively promote cultural and seasonal events happening across Oman’s governorates, offering a deeper immersion into the local traditions and lifestyle. This focus on adventure travel Oman is expected to draw a younger demographic.

International Collaboration and Increased Accessibility

The Ministry isn’t working in isolation. Successful collaboration with both government and private sector partners is central to the campaign’s success. This partnership is evident in their participation in prominent international tourism exhibitions, providing a platform to showcase Oman’s offerings to a global audience. Crucially, they are also organizing familiarization trips for media representatives and travel agencies, allowing them to experience Oman firsthand and share their insights with potential travelers.

Accessibility is also being improved. The upcoming winter season will see the inaugural visit of the Islamic Cruise vessel to Salalah Port, opening up a new avenue for tourism. Moreover, a significant increase in charter flights is anticipated, with over 640 flights expected to bring approximately 110,000 tourists – a 26% increase compared to the previous season. These charter flights are projected to generate over US$100 million in economic returns, demonstrating the tangible impact of increased accessibility.

Positive Growth Trends and Economic Impact

The Sultanate of Oman has already witnessed impressive growth in tourist arrivals leading up to October 2025. The Russian market has experienced a remarkable 140% surge, while arrivals from Switzerland and the Netherlands have increased by 49% to 60%. Spain has seen a 21% rise, and the GCC and Asian markets have shown growth ranging from 5% to 17%. The inclusion of new markets like the Nordic countries, Poland, and Austria has contributed an additional 11% to 25% to the overall increase in tourist numbers.

Last season, accommodation, transportation, and tourist activities generated US$80 million in revenue, excluding additional income from aircraft landing and refueling fees. This demonstrates the substantial economic benefits that Oman travel brings to the country. Varun Khimji Ramdas of Khimji Ramdas Group highlighted the October to April period as a “golden opportunity” for tourism, emphasizing its positive impact on hotel occupancy, restaurant demand, and the activation of cultural and sporting events.

Mohammed Kamal Makki, director of Barr Al Jissah Resort, echoed this sentiment, describing the winter season as a period of “strong regional and international demand.” He pointed to Oman’s favorable climate, stunning natural landscapes, exciting marine adventures, and genuine Arabian hospitality as key factors attracting visitors, particularly from Europe, the UK, and Russia. The resort’s three hotels – Al Waha, Al Bandar, and Al Hosn – are consistently popular, offering a blend of cultural experiences and relaxation, and benefiting from increased group and incentive travel.

Looking Ahead: A Sustainable Future for Oman Tourism

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is committed to strengthening Oman’s position as a premier global tourism destination. This involves continuous investment in promotional programs, fostering international partnerships, developing compelling tourism content, and empowering the private sector to create innovative and memorable visitor experiences. The “Try Our Winter” campaign, specifically aimed at local and GCC markets, is a testament to this dedication.

By focusing on quality, sustainability, and diversification, Oman is poised to welcome even more visitors in the coming years. The ongoing initiatives are not just about increasing tourist numbers; they are about building a thriving and resilient tourism sector that benefits both the economy and the local communities. Explore Oman this winter and discover the magic for yourself – plan your trip today and experience the warmth of Arabian hospitality.
