A historic and heritage tour in the wilayat of Nizwa, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, attracted over 3,500 participants of different ages and nationalities. Organised by the Tourism Committee of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nizwa Club, and the adventure team of Al Sumoud Team, the walk aimed to explore the historical landmarks of the region. The Minister of Energy and Minerals, Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, inaugurated the tour, which included visits to archaeological sites, historic mosques, Nizwa Fort, and other famous landmarks.

During the walking tour, participants were able to explore the course of Al Wadi Al Byadh, the gardens of Daris, the old buildings of Al Suwaiq Neighbourhood, Hisn Bait Salit Neighbourhood, and Falaj Daris. Khalfan Hamad Al Zaidi, Chairman of the Board of Nizwa Club, oversaw the successful tour, which had no emergency cases reported. The purpose of the walk was to showcase the rich heritage and tourism landmarks of Nizwa, including its forts and falajs. The success of the first tour has paved the way for a second walking tour scheduled for November 2025.

The participation of over 3,500 individuals in the walking tour highlights the growing interest in exploring the historic and cultural heritage of Nizwa. With the support of government departments and private sector establishments, the tour provided a unique opportunity for participants to connect with the rich history of the region. The visit to Al Ghantaq area, historic mosques, and Nizwa Fort offered insights into the historical significance of these sites and their role in shaping the cultural landscape of Nizwa.

The walking tour not only promoted tourism in Nizwa but also raised awareness about the importance of preserving and celebrating the region’s rich heritage. By showcasing the forts, falajs, and other historic landmarks, the tour aimed to educate participants about the cultural significance of these sites. The success of the tour indicates a growing interest in cultural tourism in Oman and highlights the potential for further exploration of the country’s historic and heritage sites.

The Minister of Energy and Minerals’ inauguration of the walk underscores the government’s commitment to promoting cultural tourism in Oman and preserving the country’s rich heritage. By collaborating with various organisations, including the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Nizwa Club, the tour was able to attract a diverse group of participants. The positive response to the tour sets the stage for future initiatives aimed at celebrating and preserving Oman’s cultural heritage for generations to come.

Overall, the walking tour in Nizwa was a resounding success, attracting thousands of participants and showcasing the region’s rich history and cultural heritage. With plans for a second tour in November 2025, the enthusiasm for exploring Nizwa’s historic landmarks is sure to continue growing.
