Nasser Al Attiyah finishes third in Dakar Rally’s opening stage.

Qatari driver Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah achieved third place in the preliminary stage of the Dakar Desert Rally car category, taking place in Saudi Arabia until January 17. Al Attiyah completed the stage in third place on a Dacia Sandrider, finishing (20) seconds behind the first-place finisher, South African Henk Lategan in a Toyota Hilux, and (19) seconds behind second-place finisher Swede Mattias Ekstrom in a Ford M Sport.

Although the times from the preliminary stage are not yet official, the top ten finishers will have the opportunity to choose their starting positions for the first stage of the Dakar Rally, set to cover a distance of (499) km starting on Saturday. In the motorcycle category of the rally, Australian Daniel Sanders on a KTM claimed first place with a time of (16:51) minutes, coming in (12) seconds after Botswanan Ross Branch on a Hero, with Spaniard Edgar Canet /KTM/ taking third place. With (778) participants from (72) countries participating in various categories, the Dakar Rally is set to span over (12) stages.
