UAE citizens living abroad or traveling can now receive alerts about extreme weather conditions worldwide through the newly launched “Early Warning System for All” platform by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). The platform aims to monitor weather conditions and natural disasters and inform citizens via text messages. The initiative is a partnership between the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) and MoFA to raise awareness among UAE nationals abroad and ensure their safety.

The platform monitors and signals severe weather conditions and natural disasters globally, including earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, and droughts. It enables MoFA to detect and track such activities and alert UAE nationals and residents worldwide about any severe weather conditions in different countries. The system provides real-time and historical data, forecast models, and advanced forecasting capabilities to predict future weather events accurately.

The ‘Early Warning System for All’ was designed to inform people effectively about weather alerts and the actions needed to save lives and reduce losses. The MoFA monitors alerts round the clock and sends messages to locals informing them about weather situations, intensity, date, and timing. This service is beneficial for UAE nationals traveling or living abroad, including tourists, students, or citizens working overseas. The platform also provides instructions to exercise caution or take necessary actions.

The launch of the platform was driven by the increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters globally due to climate change. Experts predict a rise in extreme weather events like floods, fires, hurricanes, and tornadoes. The NCM automated the process of collecting global data to track natural disasters worldwide. As a member of the World Meteorological Organization, the NCM gathered extensive data and developed an algorithm to create a warning system. The system took months to develop and was well-received by MoFA for its effectiveness.

With the ‘Early Warning System for All’, UAE citizens abroad can stay informed about weather conditions and natural disasters globally and take necessary precautions. The platform offers comprehensive real-time data, forecasting models, and advanced technology to predict future weather events accurately. The collaboration between NCM and MoFA aims to ensure the safety and security of UAE nationals living or traveling abroad by providing timely alerts and instructions during severe weather events. The platform’s launch addresses the challenges posed by climate change and the increasing frequency of natural disasters worldwide.
