Dubai’s skyline is famous for its tall buildings, but the struggle to navigate these buildings has become a major issue for office workers and residents. Long elevator queues have become common, with people wasting up to 30 minutes just waiting for a lift during peak hours. At the Grosvenor Business Tower in Barsha Heights, queues stretch for several meters, with people lining up desperately to get to their floors, regardless of the elevator’s direction.

Some office workers have resorted to creative strategies to beat the queues, such as taking the stairs up a few floors before catching the lift or going to the basement parking to catch the elevator. However, the situation can be uncomfortable, with temperatures rising, leading to discomfort and even unpleasant odors. For housewives in residential buildings, carrying heavy groceries while waiting for the lift can be exhausting, requiring careful planning for shopping trips to avoid exhaustion.

Many workers now include elevator wait times in their daily routines, leaving earlier than usual to account for delays. In buildings like the Escape Tower in Business Bay, residents face lengthy waits just to get inside their buildings, leading to frustration and wasted time. The lack of timely access to elevators is a prevalent issue that affects both office workers and residents in Dubai, causing stress and inconvenience in their daily lives.

Despite security personnel managing the crowds in some buildings, tensions can boil over due to the stress of long waits, leading to disputes and even physical altercations. High-rise office towers in older parts of Dubai also face elevator congestion, impacting delivery riders who are pressed for time. Afzal, a delivery rider from Pakistan, shared his struggles with waiting for elevators in certain buildings, causing delays in meeting delivery times.

In conclusion, the issue of elevator congestion in Dubai’s tall buildings affects both office workers and residents, leading to wasted time, frustration, and inconvenience. Creative strategies are being employed to combat the long queues, but the uncomfortable conditions and delays persist. Security measures are in place to manage crowds, but tensions can escalate, causing disputes. The challenge of elevator congestion is prevalent in high-rise buildings across Dubai, impacting the daily routines and experiences of those who live and work in them. Efforts to address this issue and improve elevator efficiency are essential to enhancing the quality of life for people in these buildings.
