The Russian Ambassador to Qatar, Dmitry Dogadkin, has praised Qatar’s recent accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a “Dialogue Partner.” This move signifies Qatar’s growing role as a mediator in global conflicts and its commitment to fostering peace and security worldwide. In an exclusive interview with Qatar News Agency, Dogadkin emphasized the mutual benefits of cooperation between Qatar and the SCO.
Qatar has emerged as a key player in international mediation efforts, successfully negotiating peace in conflicts across the Middle East and beyond. The State of Qatar’s continuous efforts in bringing conflicting parties together for dialogue and reconciliation have not gone unnoticed. Dogadkin highlighted Qatar’s mediation success in Sudan, Lebanon, Yemen, Iran, Afghanistan, and most recently, Gaza.
The Russian ambassador commended Qatar’s humanitarian efforts, noting that Russian families separated by the conflict in Ukraine were reunited thanks to Qatar’s assistance. He also praised Qatar’s proactive foreign policy and its ambition to become a global mediator. With its dedication and capabilities, Qatar is well-positioned to achieve this noble goal, according to Dogadkin.
In terms of political ties, Russia and Qatar enjoy a strong relationship, with regular dialogue on regional and international issues. The two countries have collaborated on various topics, including the conflict in Ukraine and the war on Gaza. Additionally, cultural and tourism exchanges between Qatar and Russia have been on the rise, reflecting the mutual interest in each other’s heritage and traditions.
Economic cooperation between Qatar and Russia is also flourishing, with Qatar being the largest Arab investor in the Russian economy. Bilateral trade is expected to exceed $90 million by the end of the year, with potential for further growth in the agricultural sector. Russia has much to offer Qatar in terms of agricultural goods, making it a key area for future economic cooperation.
Looking ahead, both countries are eager to enhance their partnership in various fields, including trade, investment, and humanitarian cooperation. The upcoming Russia-GCC ministerial meeting in Doha in September presents an opportunity to strengthen ties and collaborate on key regional and international issues. With their shared commitment to peace and security, Qatar and Russia are poised to continue their positive trajectory of cooperation and mutual support.
