Dutch Ambassador’s visit emphasizes shared dedication to strengthening partnership: Amir

The Hague, Netherlands: The recent visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar to the Netherlands has been described as a significant milestone by Dutch Ambassador Ferdinand Lahnstein. This visit signifies a strengthening of the bilateral relations between the two countries, highlighting the strong and growing ties between Qatar and the Netherlands. Lahnstein emphasized that the visit underscores the shared commitment of the two nations to enhancing their strategic partnership, promoting regional and global stability, and fostering political and economic collaboration.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1972, Qatar and the Netherlands have developed strong and diverse relations. The Dutch embassy in Doha, opened in 2005, initially focused on trade and investment but has since evolved into a strategic partnership, emphasizing safety, security, and regional stability. Economic and trade relations between the two countries have flourished, with Dutch exports to Qatar increasing significantly post-COVID-19 pandemic, and the Netherlands importing mineral fuels, metals, and chemical products from Qatar.

The Netherlands is recognized as a leader in the digital economy, with substantial infrastructure such as internet nodes and data centers. Ambassador Lahnstein highlighted the opportunities for enhanced collaboration between the two countries in trade, investment, innovation, and research and development, particularly in cybersecurity and the protection of digital infrastructure. Qatari investments in the Netherlands amount to approximately €7.4 billion, with significant stakes in companies such as the Kramer Group and the sponsorship of Feyenoord Football Club.

Foreign investors in the Netherlands receive incentives and support at both national and regional levels through the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA), which assists companies worldwide in establishing or expanding operations in the country. The Netherlands values Qatar’s role as a mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its humanitarian efforts in Gaza. Ambassador Lahnstein expressed the importance of Qatar’s contributions to regional stability and its commitment to promoting peace and security in the Middle East.
