Jaipur, the vibrant city in India, recently hosted a ceremony to honor the winners of the 36th International Black and White Photography Biennale organized by the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP). The Sultanate of Oman emerged as a winner at both the country and individual levels, with photographer Hatim bin Dhahi Al Rashidi securing the bronze medal. Oman was represented by a team of talented photographers who showcased their skills in the competition themed “Majestic Journey: Camels and Companions”.

A total of 44 countries participated in the Biennale, including 7 Arab countries such as Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The jury, consisting of renowned photographers from Argentina, Belgium, and Sri Lanka, carefully evaluated the submissions to determine the winners. France ultimately clinched the World Cup, while Oman proudly took home the gold medal. Additionally, Germany and Russia secured the silver and bronze medals, respectively, with six countries receiving honorary awards for their outstanding contributions.

At the individual level, German photographer Martin Serafin claimed the gold medal, while photographers from Ireland, Belgium, France, Oman, and Russia were awarded the silver and bronze medals. The ceremony, held during the 36th Congress of FIAP, was attended by representatives from 68 member countries, showcasing the international significance of the event and celebrating the art of black and white photography on a global scale.

The theme of “Majestic Journey: Camels and Companions” allowed photographers to showcase their creativity and talent, capturing the essence of Oman’s unique landscapes and cultural heritage in striking black and white images. From the graceful camels roaming the desert to the intricate details of traditional attire, each photograph reflected the beauty and diversity of Oman’s rich heritage.

The recognition of Oman’s success at the Biennale reflects the country’s commitment to promoting artistic excellence and showcasing its cultural identity on the world stage. The achievements of the Sultanate’s photographers, both at the country and individual levels, underscore the depth of talent and creativity present within the Omani photography community. The presence of Oman alongside other leading countries in the field of black and white photography demonstrates the global impact of the Biennale and the importance of such events in fostering artistic exchange and collaboration.

As the international photography community comes together to celebrate the art of black and white photography, events like the 36th International Black and White Photography Biennale serve as a platform for photographers to showcase their talent, connect with fellow enthusiasts, and be recognized for their artistic contributions. Oman’s success at the Biennale highlights the country’s growing presence in the global photography scene and reinforces its commitment to promoting creativity and innovation in the field of photography.
