Uzbek Ambassador: Qatar’s Strategy and Economy Prompted Its Decision to Join SCO as Dialogue Partner

Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the State of Qatar H E Ashraf Khodjaev has emphasized the significance of the State of Qatar’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a Dialogue Partner. Khodjaev commended Qatar’s strong economy and forward-thinking investment strategy, particularly in sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, and digital technology, which align with the SCO’s core principles of non-alignment, openness, equality, and consensus-based decision-making.

The Ambassador highlighted Qatar’s commitment to promoting peace and stability globally through its open and balanced foreign policy, which avoids international or regional conflicts with its neighbors. He stated that Qatar’s involvement in the SCO will help achieve the organization’s goals and further strengthen its role as an effective international organization addressing pressing regional issues. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan H E Shavkat Mirziyoyev also emphasized the importance of maintaining and strengthening the SCO’s role during the SCO Summit in July 2023.

Khodjaev pointed out that the SCO region offers vast economic opportunities and serves as a platform for sustainable development, contributing significantly to the global economy. He praised Qatar’s leadership under Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for establishing itself as a key player regionally and internationally, particularly through successful mediations in global disputes. Qatar’s diplomatic approach and strategic initiatives have earned it a strong reputation for promoting peace and stability in conflict-ridden areas.

Uzbekistan views Qatar as a dynamic player in global affairs, with its proactive foreign policy and adept mediation efforts receiving international acclaim for its support of peace in conflict zones such as Sudan, Somalia, and Afghanistan. Qatar’s commitment to reconciliation and conflict prevention has de-escalated tensions and paved the way for peaceful resolutions through dialogue. Uzbekistan values Doha’s constructive role in regional and international affairs and supports its significant mediation efforts, recognizing Qatar’s dedication to diplomacy and dispute resolution for global peace and security.

In conclusion, Ambassador Khodjaev’s statements underline the importance of Qatar’s accession to the SCO as a Dialogue Partner, highlighting the country’s economic strength and visionary investment strategy.
