Lawyer Andrita Maharaj also emphasized the importance of voting for change, hoping for a better South Africa for her loved ones still residing in the country. Similarly, Al-Kabeer, a resident of Durban, highlighted the beauty of South Africa marred by corruption, expressing a desire for a safer and more beautiful nation through positive change.
In adherence to election laws, South African citizens can only vote from abroad on a specific date outlined in the election timetable, typically 10 days prior to the in-country voting day. First-time voter Sarah Ebrahim, aged 20, highlighted the significance of choosing the right party to lead the country in the right direction, showing a strong sense of responsibility towards making informed decisions.
The voting process for South Africans in the UAE was characterized by efficiency and simplicity, with Andrita and Al-Kabeer praising the seamless experience. While Andrita was impressed by the quick voting process that took just 17 minutes, Al-Kabeer appreciated the updates provided through a WhatsApp group and prioritization for vulnerable groups. However, some, like Dominique, encountered longer wait times due to the initial rush in the morning hours.
