The Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games opened with a spectacular ceremony on the Seine River, marking the beginning of a three-week celebration of sports and international cooperation. The opening ceremony featured 6,800 athletes from 205 countries, who were transported on 85 boats in front of historical landmarks in Paris. The event lasted for three hours and 45 minutes and was witnessed by 320,000 spectators from specially built stands on the riverbanks and 200,000 from the balconies of neighboring buildings. He expressed hope for a successful participation of the Qatari sports mission in the Olympics and emphasized the importance of achieving the best results for the State of Qatar. Barshim’s participation in the opening ceremony marked a historic moment for him as it was his first appearance at such an event.

Athletes from Palestine, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, UAE, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Oman, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen, Somalia, Djibouti, and Comoros were all represented at the event. The participation of these Arab countries highlights the diversity and inclusion that is a key aspect of the Olympic Games, bringing athletes from different backgrounds and cultures together to compete in the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play.

The opening ceremony also featured the first boat carrying the Greek delegation, symbolizing the origins of the Olympic Games in ancient Greece. Following the Greek delegation, the Olympic refugee team was also represented, underscoring the Olympic values of unity and solidarity. The event showcased a diverse range of athletes from around the world, coming together to compete in various sports and disciplines. The participation of famous singer Lady Gaga added to the festive atmosphere of the ceremony, creating a memorable and celebratory atmosphere for all the athletes and spectators in attendance.
