Doha, Qatar – The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia will compete for third place in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 today at Khalifa International Stadium. Both teams enter the match seeking a positive conclusion to their tournament runs after being eliminated from championship contention in the semi-final rounds. The game offers a chance for both nations to salvage pride and gain valuable experience as they continue their preparations for future international competitions.

Saudi Arabia suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Jordan, while the UAE lost 3-0 to the same opponent. This sets the stage for a compelling contest as both sides aim to finish the tournament on a high note, despite the disappointment of not reaching the final.

Saudi Arabia and UAE Prepare for Third-Place Match in Arab Cup

Saudi Arabia’s head coach, Herve Renard, acknowledged the team’s disappointment but emphasized their determination to secure a third-place finish. He stated the team wasn’t satisfied with their semi-final performance and is focused on ending their Arab Cup Qatar 2025 campaign with a win.

However, Renard downplayed suggestions that the team’s recent struggles are directly attributable to his leadership. He highlighted the high motivation of his players throughout the tournament and noted that despite controlling much of the semi-final against Jordan, they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.

The Saudi national team has faced a 23-year title drought, a statistic Renard addressed directly. He asserted that this lengthy period without a trophy predates his tenure and is not a reflection of the current team’s commitment.

Saudi winger Abdulrahman Al Aboud echoed this sentiment, expressing surprise at the semi-final defeat but reaffirming the team’s unwavering ambition to win titles. He also pointed to the positive aspect of the tournament – the emergence of several young players who have gained valuable competitive experience.

UAE Focused on Future Development

Meanwhile, UAE coach Cosmin Olariu described the third-place match as a significant challenge for his squad. He emphasized the demanding nature of the Arab Cup, with its condensed schedule and high level of competition.

Olariu acknowledged the psychological impact of the semi-final loss but stressed the importance of viewing it as a learning experience for a relatively young team. He believes securing third place would be a positive step in their ongoing development.

The coach also noted the value of the tournament in providing opportunities for players to gain experience in intense international matches. This exposure is considered crucial for building a stronger team capable of competing at the highest levels in the future.

Historically, Saudi Arabia holds a favorable record against the UAE, having won 21 of their 37 encounters, with 8 losses and 8 draws. This historical advantage adds another layer of intrigue to the upcoming match, though recent form and tournament dynamics could significantly influence the outcome.

The Arab Cup serves as an important regional competition, offering a platform for teams to test their skills and prepare for larger tournaments like the FIFA World Cup. The UAE and Saudi Arabia both see this as a crucial part of their long-term football development plans. The tournament also provides a valuable opportunity to assess emerging talent and refine team strategies.

Looking ahead, both teams will likely analyze their performances in the Arab Cup to identify areas for improvement. Further investment in youth development programs and coaching infrastructure will likely be prioritized as they prepare for future qualifying campaigns and international tournaments. The continued growth of football in the region is heavily contingent on consistent participation in these events and a commitment to long-term strategic planning.
