School bus operators in Dubai now have the opportunity to generate additional revenue by displaying advertisements and promotional campaigns on their buses, as announced by the Road and Transport Authority. This initiative aims to provide a new income stream for school transport operators by utilizing advertising spaces both inside and outside the buses. However, the advertisements must comply with strict standards and requirements to ensure they are appropriate and do not compromise the safety and well-being of school children.

To ensure that the advertising content meets the necessary standards, Adel Shakri, Director of the Planning and Business Development Department at the Public Transport Corporation, outlined the guidelines that need to be followed. According to Shakri, the advertisements must be suitable for students and promote positive principles, morals, and behaviors in accordance with UAE laws. Approval from Dubai Municipality is mandatory, and an advertising permit must be obtained through the RTA website.

For safety purposes, onboard advertising screens should be positioned behind the driver to prevent distraction, and no advertisements should obstruct doors or emergency exits. External advertisements on the buses should not cover the ‘School Bus’ signage or obstruct the driver’s view, especially on the rear glass. These measures are put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of the students riding the buses while still allowing for advertising opportunities for businesses in the community.

This new advertising opportunity provides school bus operators with a chance to diversify their income sources and tap into the advertising market. By allowing businesses to advertise on school buses, operators can generate additional revenue to support their operations and enhance the services they provide to students and schools. This initiative also opens up new marketing possibilities for businesses looking to reach a captive audience of students and parents during their daily commute.

The collaboration between school bus operators and the business community through advertising on buses creates a mutually beneficial relationship. School bus operators gain a new revenue stream, while businesses have a unique advertising platform to promote their products and services to a targeted audience. This partnership not only supports the financial sustainability of school bus operators but also enhances the visibility and reach of businesses within the community.

By adhering to the advertising standards and requirements set by the RTA, school bus operators and businesses can ensure that their advertising campaigns are effective, safe, and compliant with regulations. This collaboration underscores the importance of responsible advertising practices that prioritize the well-being and safety of students while still providing valuable marketing opportunities for businesses. Ultimately, this initiative contributes to the overall growth and development of the school transport sector in Dubai and strengthens the partnership between operators and the business community.
