With the recent surge in fresh fish prices across the UAE, retailers have assured consumers that prices will remain stable and there will be no shortage of fresh fish in supermarkets and hypermarkets. Despite challenges faced by local fishermen due to summer conditions, retailers have taken proactive steps to mitigate the impact on consumers. Retailers are offering over 90 varieties of fresh fish across their outlets to ensure residents have access to a wide selection despite market fluctuations.

Gary Mark Backhouse, head of Seafood and Butchery Department at LuLu Group, reassured customers of stable prices and sufficient stock, stating, “With an extensive display of over 90 fresh fish varieties, we maintain a global supply chain to mitigate the impact of market fluctuations.” The supermarket chain has also taken measures to maintain consistent pricing and ensure availability of popular fish species like Grouper, Sheri, and Kingfish. Despite price hikes, the supermarket chain is implementing measures to keep prices consistent and ensure no disruption in supply.

Various supermarkets like Nesto, Ansar Mall, and Al Madeena are managing their supply chains to ensure fish availability despite challenging conditions. Fresh fish are being frozen at some locations to extend shelf life and maintain stock levels. Ansar Mall is offering discounts of up to 30 percent for their Smile programme members on a variety of fish species. Other supermarkets like Nesto are emphasizing the importance of logistics to ensure a steady flow of fish to their stores and commitment to providing fresh fish at fair prices regardless of market conditions.

As summer heat affects local fishing operations, retailers’ measures to stabilize prices and supply are expected to provide relief to residents. For many residents, especially those in southern Dubai, local supermarkets are the primary source of fresh fish. Residents expressed relief at the availability and affordability of fish in hypermarkets, with one resident stating, “I have noticed the price hikes in local markets, but thankfully, I can still find what I need at reasonable prices at the supermarket. It’s good to know that our local supermarkets are taking steps to support their customers.” Overall, retailers are ensuring that consumers have access to a variety of fresh fish at stable prices despite market fluctuations.
