Qatari athletes stand out at WTT Youth Contender in Ismailia

Qatar’s Ahmed Korani recently celebrated a significant victory by winning the boys’ U-17 title at the WTT Youth Contender in Ismailia, Egypt. Along with his teammates Yousif Abdalla and Abdulaziz Al Abdulla, the Qatari table tennis players secured an impressive total of two gold and one silver medals at the championships held at El Qanah Stadium Hall 1. The event witnessed participation from youth players representing over 16 countries, showcasing the talent and determination of young athletes from around the world.

Ahmed Korani, ranked 316th globally in the U-17 category, displayed outstanding skills throughout the tournament. He claimed the gold medal in the boys’ U-17 singles by defeating Egypt’s Seifeldin Kassem with a convincing score of 11-7, 11-7, and 11-6. Korani’s journey to victory included a close 3-2 win against Algeria’s Bilel Zouitene in the quarter-finals and a 3-0 victory over Luxembourg’s Luca Elsen in the semi-finals. His stellar performance showcased his talent and dedication to the sport, earning him a well-deserved spot on the podium.

Yousif Abdalla, ranked 667th globally, also made his mark by securing the gold medal in the boys’ U-15 singles. Abdalla’s impressive performance led to a 3-0 victory over Egypt’s Abdelmalk ElSayed with scores of 11-9, 11-7, and 11-9. The young Qatari player showcased his skills and determination by defeating Kazakhstan’s Alexey Markin and Algeria’s Bilel Zouitene in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, respectively. Abdalla’s success at the championships highlights his potential as a rising star in the world of table tennis.

In the U-13 boys singles category, Abdulaziz Al Abdulla represented Qatar with a strong performance, earning the silver medal after a competitive final match against Egypt’s Asser Sameh. Despite facing a tough opponent, Al Abdulla showcased his skills and resilience, ultimately claiming the silver medal with a promising performance. The Qatari youngster’s achievement at the championships demonstrates his talent and potential to compete at a high level in the sport of table tennis.

The tournament also featured another talented Qatari player, Sultan Al Kuwari, who reached the quarter-finals in the boys’ U-17 category. Al Kuwari’s journey in the competition ended with a 3-1 defeat against Malaysian player Hong Yu Tey, showcasing the competitive nature of the event. The presence of strong competitors from countries such as Egypt, Luxembourg, Kazakhstan, and Algeria, among others, added to the overall excitement and intensity of the championships, providing a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and compete at an international level.

Supported by the World Table Tennis (WTT), the WTT Youth Contender in Ismailia, Egypt, provided a valuable opportunity for young athletes to showcase their talent and compete against top competitors from around the world. The success of Qatar’s Ahmed Korani, Yousif Abdalla, and Abdulaziz Al Abdulla at the championships reflects the country’s growing presence and strength in the sport of table tennis.
