The State of Qatar recently participated in the first regular session of the Universal Postal Union’s (UPU) Board of Directors in 2024, represented by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) and Qatar Postal Services Company (Qatar Post). The Qatari delegation, led by President of CRA Eng. Ahmed Abdullah Al Muslimani, joined 41 other countries in Bern, Switzerland, to discuss important issues related to the postal sector and the union’s work.
The four-day meeting covered a range of topics, including the board’s work program for the period 2022-2025, and the upcoming 28th UPU conference in 2025. Various committees associated with the Board of Directors, such as the administrative committee and advisory committee, also discussed key matters. President Al Muslimani took the opportunity to engage in discussions with Director-General of the UPU Masahiko Metoki and Deputy Director-General Marjan Osvald, aiming to enhance cooperation between Qatar and the UPU for the betterment of the global postal sector.
In addition to its participation in the UPU Board of Directors meeting, Qatar co-chaired a meeting of the cooperation committee for development and technical assistance along with the Republic of Belarus on May 2. This meeting focused on implementing decisions from the Universal Postal Conference related to technical cooperation among member states of the union. Various reports and presentations were reviewed, including the Union’s Global Development Cooperation Strategy for the period 2022-2025.
