Team Qatar finished strong at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, adding to their medal count on the final day of competition. The team secured one silver and two bronze medals on Wednesday, bringing their overall tally to 11 medals – 3 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze – marking a successful showing in the multi-sport event. The Islamic Solidarity Games highlight athletic talent across the Islamic world.

The latest medals were awarded in fencing, handball, and athletics. Qatar’s fencing team achieved a silver in the men’s foil team event, while the national handball team took bronze after a decisive victory. Abubaker Haydar added to the medal haul with a bronze in the men’s 800m race, enhancing Qatar’s presence in athletics during the games.

Qatar’s Fencing Performance at the Islamic Solidarity Games

The men’s foil fencing team, comprised of Khalid Al-Yafei, Adham Al-Deeb, and Abdullah Khalifa, delivered a compelling performance throughout the tournament. They ultimately fell short in the final bout against Uzbekistan, losing 43-45 in a closely contested match. Nevertheless, the silver medal represents a significant achievement for the team and Qatari fencing.

Other Fencing Results

Qatar also fielded men’s and women’s epee teams. The men’s epee squad, consisting of Youssef Abdul-Tawab, Mohammed Abdalli, and Abdulrahman Al-Jadra, were eliminated in the round of sixteen after a 37-45 defeat to Kyrgyzstan. Similarly, the women’s epee team of Thikrayat Al-Abdullah, Fatima Al-Maadid, and Sheikha Jasem exited at the same stage, losing to Saudi Arabia 37-43.

Handball and Athletics Contribute to Qatar’s Medal Tally

The Qatar national handball team demonstrated their skill and determination, securing a well-deserved bronze medal with a 36-28 win over the United Arab Emirates in the third-place playoff. This adds another achievement to the national team’s record, bolstering handball’s standing in Qatari sports.

In athletics, Abubaker Haydar showcased his speed and endurance, earning a bronze medal in the men’s 800m race with a time of 1:46.26. Mohammed Issa Al-Fadala, President of Qatar Athletics Federation, praised Haydar’s performance, noting its reflection of Qatar’s growing competitiveness on the international stage.

Meanwhile, Moaz Ibrahim finished just off the podium in the discus throw, placing fourth with a throw of 56.9 meters. The Qatari delegation also participated in traditional sports, with Hazam Abdullah Al-Nadeela finishing fourth in the men’s 2km camel race aboard Hattash. Saudi Arabia dominated the camel racing events, taking gold in both the 2km and 8km races. UAE riders secured the remaining medals in the 2km event, claiming silver and bronze.

The 6th Islamic Solidarity Games saw participation from athletes across the Islamic world, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and cultural exchange. According to organizers, this year’s event featured a record number of participating nations and athletes. The games are intended to strengthen collaboration and promote peace through sport.

Looking ahead, Qatar will likely analyze the outcomes of the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games to refine training programs and identify areas for improvement. The preparation for future international competitions, including potential participation in the upcoming Asian Games, will be a key focus. The performance of the Qatar national team will be closely monitored as they strive for continued success.
