Doha, Qatar – The highly anticipated Qatar Kite Festival is scheduled to return to the Old Doha Port from January 15 to 24, 2026, marking its fourth edition. The event promises a vibrant display of aerial artistry and family entertainment, drawing both internationally acclaimed kite flyers and local enthusiasts. Organizers expect another strong turnout following the success of the 2025 festival, which attracted thousands of visitors.

The festival will showcase the talents of 20 professional kite teams hailing from around the globe. These teams will present large-scale kite displays, synchronized performances, and captivating aerial shows against the backdrop of Doha’s skyline. The event aims to provide a unique cultural experience and boost winter tourism in Qatar.

What to Expect at the Qatar Kite Festival 2026

The 2026 festival will feature both daytime and nighttime kite flying sessions, allowing visitors to enjoy the spectacle under different lighting conditions. Artistic kite designs, character kites, and precision synchronized routines will be central to the aerial performances. According to the festival website, the event is designed to be visually stunning and engaging for all ages.

Ground Activities and Entertainment

Beyond the aerial displays, the Qatar Kite Festival will offer a diverse range of ground activities. These include kite-making workshops specifically for children, providing a hands-on learning experience and fostering creativity. Free kites will also be distributed to attendees, encouraging participation in public flying sessions.

Additionally, the festival grounds will host cultural performances, lively carnival parades, and engaging stage shows. Dedicated kids’ zones and playgrounds will ensure younger visitors have ample opportunities for fun and recreation. A variety of food and beverage outlets will be available throughout the venue, catering to diverse culinary preferences.

The Old Doha Port was selected as the venue due to its spaciousness and suitability for large-scale events. The location also provides a picturesque setting for the kite displays, enhancing the overall visual appeal. The port underwent significant redevelopment in recent years, transforming it into a modern and attractive destination for both tourists and residents.

The 2025 edition of the festival was praised for its organization and the quality of the kite displays. The event contributed to a positive atmosphere in Doha during the winter season and provided a welcome distraction for families and individuals. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has previously supported similar events aimed at promoting tourism and economic diversification.

Qatar has been actively investing in its tourism infrastructure and promoting itself as a year-round destination. Events like the Qatar Kite Festival are crucial in attracting visitors during the cooler months and showcasing the country’s cultural offerings. The festival aligns with Qatar’s broader strategy to become a hub for international events and tourism in the region. The success of previous iterations has demonstrated the public appetite for such attractions.

The growing popularity of kite flying as a recreational activity and competitive sport is also a factor contributing to the festival’s success. Kite festivals around the world have seen increased participation and viewership in recent years, reflecting a renewed interest in this traditional pastime. This trend is likely to continue, further boosting the appeal of the Qatar Kite Festival.

Organizers are expected to release a more detailed program of events, including specific performance schedules and workshop timings, in the coming weeks. Information regarding ticketing and accessibility will also be announced closer to the festival date. Potential attendees are advised to monitor the official Qatar Kite Festival website for updates.

Looking ahead, the future of the festival appears secure, with plans for continued growth and innovation. However, the exact scale and format of the event will depend on factors such as sponsorship funding and logistical considerations. The organizers will likely assess feedback from the 2026 festival to inform planning for subsequent editions, aiming to further enhance the visitor experience and solidify the event’s position as a highlight of Qatar’s winter calendar.
