Oman is investing heavily in its infrastructure, and the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah, specifically the region of Nizwa, is at the forefront of these improvements. A substantial OMR319 million is being allocated to public service projects focused on bolstering electricity, water, and sanitation networks. These initiatives, driven by Nama Group subsidiaries, aim to significantly enhance the quality of life for both citizens and residents while supporting the ambitious goals of Oman Vision 2040.

Enhancing Infrastructure in Nizwa and Al Dakhiliyah

The Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah, with Nizwa as its regional hub, is experiencing a period of significant infrastructural development. This isn’t merely about upgrading existing systems; it’s a strategic move to future-proof vital services and ensure sustainable growth. The projects encompass a wide range of improvements across the electricity, water, and sanitation sectors, all designed to meet the evolving needs of a growing population and a diversifying economy.

This investment reflects Oman’s commitment to providing reliable and efficient utilities, crucial for attracting investment and fostering economic prosperity. The focus on water and sanitation projects alongside electricity upgrades demonstrates a holistic approach to infrastructure development.

Nama Group’s Role in Powering Progress

Nama Group, a leading player in Oman’s utility sector, is spearheading much of this development through its subsidiaries. Nama Electricity Distribution Company is particularly active in Al Dakhiliyah, undertaking several key projects to strengthen the power grid. These projects are directly aligned with Oman Vision 2040’s objectives of achieving developmental sustainability and enhancing the readiness of essential services.

Upgrading Substations for Reliable Power Supply

Eng. Yousef Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Head of Technical Affairs at Nama Electricity Distribution Company, detailed some of the ongoing initiatives to the Oman News Agency (ONA). A key component of the plan involves upgrading the Adam 33 kV substation. This upgrade will increase capacity and improve the reliability of power supply to the surrounding areas.

Additionally, two new substations are under construction: one in Birkat Al Mauz and another in the Samail Industrial Area. These substations, costing over OMR5.1 million collectively, will cater to the increasing electricity demands of both residential and industrial consumers. The Samail Industrial Area, in particular, is experiencing growth, making the new substation vital for supporting its expansion.

Project Timelines and Expected Impact

The Birkat Al Mouj substation was successfully commissioned before the summer season, providing a much-needed boost to the local power network. This proactive approach ensured a stable electricity supply during peak demand periods.

Meanwhile, the remaining two substations – Birkat Al Mauz and Samail Industrial Area – are slated to become operational in the first quarter of 2026. This phased approach allows for careful planning and execution, minimizing disruption to existing services. The completion of these projects will significantly enhance the overall electricity infrastructure in the region.

The Broader Impact of Infrastructure Investment

The benefits of these investments extend far beyond simply providing more power and water. Improved infrastructure is a cornerstone of economic development, attracting businesses and creating employment opportunities. Reliable utilities are also essential for supporting social progress, enabling access to education, healthcare, and other vital services.

Furthermore, these projects contribute to Oman’s sustainability goals. Modernizing water and sanitation systems reduces waste and conserves precious resources. Upgrading the electricity grid improves efficiency and reduces reliance on fossil fuels, paving the way for greater integration of renewable energy sources. The focus on infrastructure development is therefore a key element in Oman’s long-term vision.

Looking Ahead: Nizwa and Oman Vision 2040

The OMR319 million investment in Al Dakhiliyah, and specifically in areas surrounding Nizwa, represents a significant step towards realizing the ambitious goals of Oman Vision 2040. By prioritizing infrastructure improvements in critical sectors like electricity, water, and sanitation, Oman is laying the foundation for a more sustainable, prosperous, and equitable future.

These projects demonstrate a clear commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all citizens and residents. As the substations come online and the wider infrastructure upgrades are completed, the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah will be well-positioned to embrace future growth and development.
