The Sultanate of Oman is highlighting the importance of finding practical and innovative solutions to address the negative impacts of climate change. During an annual conference focused on the effects of climate change, Oman proposed the creation of a database to identify areas most vulnerable to related damage in the near, medium, and long term future. Idris Abdulrahman Al Khanjari, Permanent Representative of Oman to the UN in Geneva, stressed the need for collective and comprehensive solutions that consider local dimensions and anticipate change to protect the environment against further damage.

Al Khanjari emphasized the importance of proactive, fair, sustainable, and environment-friendly alternatives to accommodate the transition of entire human populations to more suitable locations. These solutions should also replace production activities in a way that ensures the safety of human livelihoods, upholds justice and equity, and respects social, economic, and environmental laws globally. By finding these solutions, it is believed that it will ultimately contribute to the overall protection of the environment and mitigate the negative impacts of climate change.

By compiling a database on vulnerable areas and seeking comprehensive solutions, Oman is taking a proactive approach to address the challenges posed by climate change. This approach also highlights the importance of creating sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives to protect the planet for future generations.

The speech by Al Khanjari at the conference of the Human Rights Council in Geneva underscores Oman’s commitment to addressing the impacts of climate change and protecting the environment. By urging parties to consider local dimensions and anticipate change, Oman is advocating for a forward-thinking approach to safeguarding the planet. Additionally, the emphasis on justice, equity, and respect for social, economic, and environmental laws highlights Oman’s holistic approach to finding solutions to the challenges of climate change.
