Saudi Arabia has introduced a new mechanism for reviewing taxi fares via applications, with proposals coming from the Transport General Authority or the facility operating the transport applications, and being approved by the Minister of Transport and Logistics. Minister Saleh Al-Jasser issued a decision to amend the policy for determining fares for using public transportation in the Kingdom, aiming to achieve a better balance between passengers and operators in the taxi sector. Under the new amendments, a methodology based on “review – approval” has been developed for approving fares proposed by the TGA, with taxi service fare proposals being prepared by the TGA and presented to the Minister for approval. Similar mechanisms for determining taxi service fares via electronic applications were also included in the decision, with the facility operating the application proposing the fare mechanism, which will be reviewed and approved by the authority.

The amendment mandates licensees and authorized individuals in the taxi activity, as well as establishments operating electronic applications, to follow the approved fares and publish them to beneficiaries when they are updated. This move is expected to bring about positive changes in the taxi sector, ensuring a fair and transparent pricing system for passengers using taxi services. By implementing this new mechanism, Saudi Arabia aims to enhance the overall taxi service experience for both passengers and operators, creating a more efficient and customer-friendly environment.

The new mechanism for reviewing taxi fares via applications is a significant step towards regulating the taxi sector in Saudi Arabia and ensuring fair pricing for passengers. The proposals put forward by the Transport General Authority and the facility operating transport applications will be closely monitored and approved by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, ensuring that fares are set at reasonable rates. By following the approved fares and updating beneficiaries regularly, licensees and establishments operating electronic applications will contribute to maintaining transparency and accountability in the taxi sector, ultimately benefiting both passengers and operators.

The decision to introduce a methodology based on “review – approval” for determining taxi fares reflects the government’s commitment to improving the overall public transportation system in Saudi Arabia. By streamlining the process of setting fares and ensuring that they are fair and transparent, the authorities hope to create a more efficient and customer-friendly environment for passengers. The amendment to the policy for determining fares for using public transportation in the Kingdom is expected to have a positive impact on the taxi sector, leading to higher levels of customer satisfaction and increased trust in the system.

Overall, the introduction of a new mechanism for reviewing taxi fares via applications in Saudi Arabia is a positive development that aims to enhance the taxi service experience for both passengers and operators. By implementing a methodology based on “review – approval” and requiring licensees and establishments operating electronic applications to follow approved fares, the authorities are working towards creating a fair and transparent pricing system in the taxi sector. This move is expected to bring about positive changes, ensuring that passengers receive quality services at reasonable rates while promoting accountability and efficiency in the industry.
