Qatar’s commitment to strengthening its position as a regional logistics hub was highlighted at a recent seminar organized by Mwani Qatar, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, the General Authority of Customs, and QTerminals Group. The event, titled “Facilitating the Entry and Exit of Transit Shipments Through Land Border,” brought together representatives from shipping agencies and companies involved in the maritime transport sector in the country. The goal of the seminar was to showcase the simplified procedures and exclusive benefits available for transshipment cargo at Hamad Port, enabling efficient and cost-effective transportation of goods to neighboring countries.

The seminar commenced with a welcome speech, followed by a presentation on the objectives of the event and a summary of the simplified protocols applied to transshipment goods at Hamad Port. These protocols include simplified customs procedures and enhanced handling operations designed to reduce costs and improve efficiency for companies using the port as a transit gateway to nearby countries. Hamad Port offers several competitive advantages for transshipment, including reduced tariffs, additional free storage, lower customs fees, and highly efficient vessel and yard operations. The port features fast truck transit procedures and an advanced electronic infrastructure, ensuring a smooth workflow and providing essential support at every stage of the shipment journey until it reaches its final destination via the land border.

The seminar also included a Q&A session, allowing participants to discuss the advantages of using Hamad Port as a preferred regional transit gateway. The port’s strategic location and efficient operations align with the Ministry of Transport’s vision to position Qatar as a vibrant commercial center in the region. During the first nine months of 2024, Hamad Port handled over 1.067 million TEUs, with 49 percent being transit containers. In addition, the port managed over 1.15 million tons of general and bulk cargo, 89,000 units of RORO, around 20,000 livestock heads, and a total of 1,129 ships. These impressive figures demonstrate the port’s capacity and efficiency in handling transshipment cargo and supporting the country’s logistics sector.

As a crucial part of Qatar’s infrastructure, Hamad Port offers an array of benefits for companies looking to transport goods through the region. The simplified customs procedures and enhanced handling operations at the port reduce costs and improve efficiency for businesses. In addition, the port’s competitive advantages, such as reduced tariffs, additional free storage, and lower customs fees, make it an attractive choice for companies utilizing it as a transit gateway to neighboring countries. The advanced electronic infrastructure at Hamad Port, including automated gates, a platform for scheduling truck appointments, and electronic payment facilities through the integrated Port Community System, “MWANINA,” ensures a seamless workflow and provides essential support throughout the shipment journey.

The success of Hamad Port as a regional transit gateway is evident in its handling of over 1.067 million TEUs and a variety of other cargo types during the first nine months of 2024. The port’s efficient operations and strategic location have positioned it as a key player in Qatar’s logistics sector, supporting the country’s goal of becoming a vibrant commercial center in the region. By organizing seminars and events to showcase the benefits of using Hamad Port for transshipment cargo, Mwani Qatar, in collaboration with other key stakeholders, is further enhancing Qatar’s position as a regional logistics hub and facilitating the efficient and cost-effective transportation of goods to neighboring countries.

In conclusion, the recent seminar organized by Mwani Qatar, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, the General Authority of Customs, and QTerminals Group, highlighted the simplified procedures and exclusive benefits available for transshipment cargo at Hamad Port. The port’s competitive advantages, advanced electronic infrastructure, and efficient operations make it an attractive choice for companies looking to transport goods through the region. With its strategic location and commitment to enhancing Qatar’s position as a regional logistics hub, Hamad Port continues to play a crucial role in supporting the country’s logistics sector and facilitating the efficient movement of goods to neighboring countries.
