Doha, Qatar – Mubkhar Al Shahania secured a dominant victory in the Ras Mlaiji Cup at Al Uqda Racecourse yesterday, showcasing impressive form in the Local Purebred Arabian Handicap. The race, a highlight of the day’s events, saw the grey colt lead from start to finish, solidifying his position as a contender in the Purebred Arabian racing circuit. Rashid Saed Adiba, Head of QREC Racing Operations Section, presented the trophies to the winning connections.

The Al Uqda Racecourse hosted a full card of competitive racing following the Ras Mlaiji Cup, featuring a variety of handicaps and plates for both Purebred Arabians and Thoroughbreds. Several other horses also claimed victories, demonstrating the depth of talent within Qatar’s racing community. The event drew a significant crowd of racing enthusiasts eager to witness the thrilling action.

Mubkhar Al Shahania Triumphs in the Ras Mlaiji Cup

Mubkhar Al Shahania, ridden by Lukas Delozier, quickly established a comfortable lead in the 2000m Ras Mlaiji Cup. The colt maintained a steady pace, expertly managing the distance and conserving energy for a strong finish. This strategic approach proved successful as he extended his advantage in the final stretch.

Despite brief pressure from trailing horses as the field approached the home turn, Mubkhar Al Shahania responded decisively. Delozier skillfully guided the horse, allowing him to lengthen his stride and accelerate away from the competition. The victory was secured well before the finish line, marking a significant achievement for the horse and its team.

Additional Race Results

Beyond the feature race, several other horses demonstrated their capabilities. Maarek, with Damien Morin in the saddle, returned to winning form in the Purebred Arabian Handicap over the same 2000m distance. This win suggests a potential resurgence for the horse in upcoming races.

Hazm Al Uraiq, ridden by Youssef Lachhab, achieved a notable victory in the Local Thoroughbred Handicap over 1200m. Meanwhile, Salah Al Deen finally broke his maiden in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate, winning a close finish with Soufiane Saadi. These results highlight the competitive nature of Thoroughbred racing in Qatar.

Hay’er Al Shahania continued a promising trajectory with a win in the Local Purebred Arabian Handicap over 1200m, partnered with Salman Fahad Al-Hajri. Alnood also showed improvement, securing a victory in the Purebred Arabian Novice Plate over 2000m with Szczepan Mazur aboard. Rathmoy shed his maiden status in the Thoroughbred Handicap, and Townsend Manor closed out the day with a powerful late surge to win the final Thoroughbred Handicap.

The consistent performance of Purebred Arabians, a breed deeply rooted in Qatari culture, underscores the nation’s commitment to preserving and promoting its equestrian heritage. Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) continues to invest in developing both Purebred Arabian and Thoroughbred racing, attracting international participation and elevating the sport’s profile.

Soufiane Saadi enjoyed a successful day, securing a riding double with victories aboard Salah Al Deen and Townsend Manor. The performance of these jockeys demonstrates the importance of skilled ridership in achieving success on the track. The varied outcomes across the different races suggest a highly competitive racing environment in Qatar.

Looking ahead, QREC is expected to announce the schedule for the next racing events at Al Uqda Racecourse in the coming weeks. The performance of Mubkhar Al Shahania will be closely watched to see if he can maintain his winning form in future competitions. Further developments regarding potential international participation in upcoming races will also be of interest to the racing community.

The success of the Ras Mlaiji Cup and the accompanying races reinforces Qatar’s position as a growing hub for equestrian sports. Continued investment in infrastructure and talent development will likely be crucial for sustaining this momentum and attracting further attention to the nation’s racing scene.
