Qatari citizens in Doha enthusiastically participated in the referendum for the 2024 draft constitutional amendments to the constitution of Qatar. The Ministry of Interior reported a 51% turnout by 11am, with voters seen at paper and electronic referendum committees across the country. The General Referendum Committee provided options for in-person and remote voting, showcasing a sense of civic duty among citizens.

The referendum, called by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, aims to bring about positive changes to the country’s constitution. Citizens like Abdullah Jassim Al Darwish and Abdulrahman Al Baqer expressed their happiness and optimism for the proposed amendments. The high voter turnout indicates a strong level of public engagement and interest in shaping the future of Qatar through democratic processes.

The government made special arrangements for the referendum, granting all Qatari employees early leave on voting day to encourage participation. Schools, both public and private, were also closed to ensure that students and teachers could take part in the historic event. The Cabinet’s decision to offer these incentives showcases the importance of citizen participation in shaping the country’s future.

The spirit of unity and national pride was palpable as citizens queued up to cast their votes in the referendum. The sense of responsibility towards their homeland and the desire to strengthen social cohesion were evident in the turnout. This collective enthusiasm highlights the significance of the referendum as a national celebration and a crucial step in Qatar’s journey towards progress and unity.

The voting process began at 7am on November 5 and is scheduled to last until 7pm, after which counting and sorting of votes will take place. The General Committee is expected to announce the results within 24 hours of the closing of the polls. The successful conduct of the referendum reflects Qatar’s commitment to democracy and the active participation of its citizens in shaping the country’s future.

Overall, the 2024 constitutional amendment referendum in Qatar has been a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards progress and unity. The high voter turnout, the government’s efforts to facilitate participation, and the citizens’ enthusiasm all indicate a strong commitment to democratic values and the desire to create a better future for Qatar. This national celebration has brought together people from all walks of life, showcasing a shared sense of responsibility and pride in shaping the country’s destiny.
