The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology(MTCIT) in Muscat recently announced the provision of 1,728 jobs in various specializations and fields of information and communications technology until the third quarter of 2024. These job opportunities include 33 different professions, ranging from leadership roles to technical positions. Notably, Omanis obtained 80 percent of these jobs, while expatriates obtained the remaining 20 percent. This highlights the Ministry’s commitment to Omanising jobs and increasing the employment of Omanis in the labor market within the communications and information technology sector.

As a result of the Ministry’s efforts, the percentage of Omani workers in the communications and information technology sector has seen a significant increase. From 49.71 percent in 2023, the percentage of Omanis in the workforce has risen to 62.02 percent in 2024. Conversely, there has been a decrease in the percentage of expatriates, now accounting for 37.98 percent of the sector’s workforce. The Ministry’s focus on employing Omani nationals is exemplified by the employment of approximately 226 Omanis since the launch of the National Initiative to Qualify National Competencies (Makin).

This increase in the employment of Omanis in the communications and information technology sector is a positive step towards supporting local talent and enhancing their skills and capabilities. By providing job opportunities in various specializations and fields, the Ministry is not only contributing to the growth of the sector but also empowering Omani nationals to play a more significant role in shaping the future of technology in the country. This aligns with Oman’s vision to create a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation and technology.

The Ministry’s focus on Omanising jobs and increasing the employment of Omanis in the communications and information technology sector is in line with the country’s broader efforts to diversify its economy and reduce reliance on oil revenue. By investing in local talent and providing them with opportunities to excel in the technology sector, Oman is moving towards a more sustainable and inclusive economy. This approach also helps address the issue of unemployment among Omani youth and creates a skilled workforce that can drive innovation and growth in the country.

In addition to creating job opportunities, the Ministry’s emphasis on Omanising the communications and information technology sector also contributes to the overall development of the industry. By encouraging the participation of local talent and expertise, the sector can benefit from diverse perspectives and ideas, leading to greater innovation and competitiveness in the global market. This, in turn, can attract more investment and create new avenues for growth and development within the technology sector in Oman.

Overall, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology(MTCIT) in Muscat’s initiative to provide job opportunities and increase the employment of Omanis in the communications and information technology sector is a positive step towards building a sustainable and inclusive economy. By empowering local talent, investing in skill development, and creating opportunities for growth and advancement, the Ministry is not only supporting Oman’s vision for a knowledge-based economy but also fostering a more prosperous future for the country and its people.
