The Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar recently launched the National School Accreditation System for public schools with an introductory meeting attended by public school principals on September 9 and 10, 2024. The system, which has been in place for private and international schools since 2011, aims to enhance school performance, encourage continuous improvement, and ensure quality education and educational outcomes in Qatar. Nasser Al-Yafei, Director of the School Evaluation Department, along with consultants and experts, presented a comprehensive overview of the system during the meeting.

Public schools selected in the first phase will undergo intensive training workshops on “Preparing the Self-Study Report and National Accreditation Standards.” These workshops will equip schools with the necessary tools and knowledge to meet the requirements for accreditation. Field visits to these schools will be conducted in the second semester of the 2025-2026 academic year to assess their progress and compliance with the accreditation standards.

Obtaining accreditation through the National School Accreditation System will provide schools with official recognition of quality education. It will also create competition among schools to achieve national accreditation, thereby raising the overall standard of education in Qatar. The system is designed to promote excellence in education by setting clear benchmarks and criteria for schools to meet in order to receive accreditation.

The introduction of the National School Accreditation System for public schools underscores the Ministry’s commitment to improving the quality of education in Qatar. By aligning public schools with the same accreditation standards as private and international schools, the Ministry aims to ensure that all students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for future success. The system will also help identify areas for improvement and provide schools with the necessary support to enhance their overall performance.

Overall, the National School Accreditation System is a valuable tool for promoting continuous improvement and excellence in education in Qatar. By providing schools with a clear framework for evaluation and accreditation, the system helps to ensure that students receive a high-quality education that meets international standards. With the support of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, public schools in Qatar are well-positioned to enhance their performance and provide students with the resources they need to succeed.
