Doha, Qatar is undergoing a unique transformation as it prepares to host the FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX 2025. Ten monumental Formula 1 helmet sculptures have been installed across the city, eight of which are the work of exciting contemporary Qatari artists, turning Doha into an open-air art installation. The sculptures will remain on display until November 30, 2025, offering fans a distinctive cultural experience alongside the high-speed action of the race.

The initiative, spearheaded by Lusail International Circuit (LIC), aims to celebrate Qatari identity, heritage, and innovation through the lens of motorsport. These 1.8-meter tall artworks are strategically located throughout Doha, inviting both residents and visitors to explore the intersection of art and racing. The project highlights Qatar’s growing prominence as a global sports and cultural destination.

A City-Wide Celebration of Formula 1 and Qatari Art

The helmet sculptures are more than just visually striking pieces; they represent a deliberate effort to integrate the excitement of Formula 1 with the rich cultural tapestry of Qatar. According to Fatima Al Qaedi, Marketing Manager at Lusail International Circuit, the exhibition is “an appreciation to Qatari creativity.” The artworks explore themes ranging from traditional Bedouin life to modern architectural achievements.

Featured Artworks and Locations

Each helmet tells a unique story. At Old Doha Port, Fatima Mohammed Shaker’s “The Rise of Glory” blends Qatar’s map and national identity with aspirations for global success. Doha Festival City Mall showcases Hala Al-Darbasti’s “Connections,” a vivid exploration of individual identity and shared humanity.

Laila Al-Qaedi’s “The Camel” at Lusail International Circuit transforms traditional tribal markings into a contemporary design echoing racing lines. Noor Abuissa’s “Heritage in Acceleration” at Msheireb Downtown reinterprets Islamic geometric patterns in the context of Formula 1 speed. Meanwhile, Jaber Henzab’s “Fusion of Speed and Heritage” at Place Vendôme Mall merges Qatari landmarks and family stories with the precision of racing.

Other notable installations include Kaltham Al-Fakhroo’s “Velocity of Heritage” at Qatar Foundation, which fuses traditional architecture with the dynamic energy of the circuit. Zainab AlShibani’s “The Land of Abundance and Oysters” at Souq Waqif draws inspiration from pearl-diving songs, and Noura Abdulrahman Al Ibrahim’s “The Falcon: A Renewed Legacy” at the LIC VVIP Lounge depicts Qatar’s national symbol with a technological twist. Two helmets, branded by LIC, are located at Hamad International Airport and the Media Accreditation Center at the St. Regis Doha.

The project has been met with enthusiasm from the participating artists. Jaber Henzab expressed his pride in collaborating with LIC, stating the integration of his artwork into the Formula 1 experience is a “truly meaningful milestone.” Kaltham Al-Fakhroo similarly highlighted the unique atmosphere of Lusail International Circuit and the opportunity to represent her craft to the community. This initiative demonstrates a commitment to supporting local talent and fostering a vibrant arts scene.

The FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX 2025, scheduled for November 28-30, is expected to draw significant international attention to Qatar. The event will feature not only the main Grand Prix race but also supporting series and live performances by prominent artists like Seal, Cheb Khaled, and Metallica. The limited remaining tickets are currently available for purchase.

Looking ahead, the success of this art installation could pave the way for similar cultural integrations at future sporting events in Qatar. The long-term impact on tourism and the promotion of Qatari art remains to be seen, but the initial response suggests a positive trajectory. Further developments regarding infrastructure improvements at the Lusail International Circuit and logistical preparations for the race will be key factors to watch in the coming months.
