Labor Minister discusses Omanization, challenges faced by SMEs

The Ministry of Labour organized a meeting with business owners in Dhofar Governorate to discuss the challenges of the labour market, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The meeting highlighted the need to streamline procedures to help establish new projects and emphasized the issue of Omanisation of certain activities. Dr. Mahad Said Ba’owain, Minister of Labour, stressed the importance of accelerating efforts to respond to the progress in the global market and support human resource development through employment initiatives in partnership with the private sector. He also praised the role of the private sector in Dhofar Governorate, especially in the tourism sector.

Dr. Mahad pointed out that the Ministry’s “Social Dialogue Committee” has been working to accelerate action, cooperation, and partnership with the three parties involved in production – the government, employers, and workers. This has led to an increase in production that aligns with global labour market needs. The Ministry of Labour is focused on developing market tools, supporting private sector institutions, and enhancing incentives for establishments. The Labour Law and related regulations are aimed at stabilizing the labour market and keeping up with progress in the global market.

The current circumstances require an acceleration of efforts in response to challenges and progress in the markets. The ministry supports human resource development as the true driver of development through employment initiatives in collaboration with the private sector. Dr. Mahad highlighted the rapid growth of the private sector in Dhofar Governorate, particularly in the tourism sector. He commended the efforts of small and medium enterprises and their national cadres in the private sector, as well as their focus on entrepreneurial projects related to artificial intelligence and supporting training programmes.

The Minister of Labour stressed the importance of the private sector in Dhofar Governorate and the efforts being made to strengthen the labour sector. He acknowledged the national cadres working in the private sector for their contributions to the establishment of companies and their dedication to entrepreneurial projects. Dr. Mahad applauded the focus on supporting training programmes and projects related to artificial intelligence, recognizing the importance of innovation and technological advancement in the labour market. The meeting highlighted the importance of cooperation and partnership between the government, employers, and workers to address challenges and opportunities in the labour market.

In conclusion, the meeting organized by the Ministry of Labour in Dhofar Governorate emphasized the need for collaboration and partnership to address the challenges facing the labour market. Dr. Mahad Said Ba’owain highlighted the importance of accelerating efforts to respond to global market needs and support human resource development. The private sector in Dhofar Governorate, particularly in the tourism sector, plays a crucial role in driving economic growth and job creation. The Ministry of Labour is committed to supporting private sector institutions, developing market tools, and enhancing incentives for establishments to promote growth and stability in the labour market. Through collaboration and innovation, the labour sector in Dhofar Governorate can continue to thrive and contribute to Oman’s economic development.
