How to obtain a public library membership in Dubai: pricing, penalties, and procedure

In Dubai, residents can enjoy a great deal of benefits by becoming a member of the Public Libraries. From a vast collection of books at Mankhool Library to fun activities at Al Twar Library, members have access to a variety of resources and services. Membership provides access to all physical and digital books, free internet access across public libraries, and discounted rates on library services for a period of five years. Additionally, members can stay updated with the latest news by following KT on WhatsApp channels.

The cost of membership varies based on the type of applicant. The fees are as follows: Child (Free), Adult (Dh50), Family (Dh50), along with additional fees of Dh75 for insurance and Dh150 for adults. Moreover, an additional Dh20 will be charged as innovation and knowledge fees. The process of applying for membership is simple and only requires a copy of a valid ID. Applicants can apply online through the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority website, by following a few simple steps.

In terms of fines, delayed returns of items will incur a charge of 50 fils per day. In case of loss or damage to a book, members have the option to hand over the same library item and pay Dh25 for administrative expenses, or pay the value of the library item and Dh25 for administrative expenses. Damaging a book incurs a fine of Dh50, along with a knowledge and innovation fee of Dh20. If the magnetic sticker is damaged, an additional Dh10 will be charged. Failure to comply with the regulations may result in membership cancellation, and the security deposit will not be returned.

In conclusion, becoming a member of Dubai’s Public Libraries offers residents access to a wealth of knowledge and resources. The membership benefits include access to a wide range of books, free internet access, and discounted rates on library services. Applying for membership is a simple process that can be done online with just a valid ID copy. However, members should be aware of the fines and penalties associated with delayed returns or damages to library items.
