HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers in Oman, recently met with Arsenio Domínguez, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and his delegation. During the meeting, HH Sayyid Fahd expressed the Sultanate of Oman’s appreciation for the IMO’s role in promoting marine navigation and ensuring the safety of passengers and sea voyages in international waters. He also highlighted Oman’s ongoing efforts to collaborate with the IMO to enhance maritime transport, secure maritime routes, and address related challenges.

The Secretary General of the IMO acknowledged Oman’s significant strategic position as a regional maritime center that plays a key role in maintaining security and safety on international maritime routes in the region. He emphasized the importance of the visit in discussing ways to support Oman’s nomination for Category (C) membership in the executive council of the IMO. The meeting was also attended by Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

Oman’s strategic location on the Arabian Peninsula has positioned it as a crucial player in the maritime industry, thanks to its access to key international shipping routes. The country’s commitment to enhancing maritime safety and security has made it a valuable partner for organizations like the IMO. By cooperating with the IMO, Oman aims to further strengthen its maritime transport sector, improve infrastructure, and foster sustainable growth in the industry. This collaboration will also help Oman overcome any obstacles that may arise in the maritime domain.

The Sultanate of Oman has long been recognized for its efforts to promote sustainable maritime development and marine conservation. By working closely with international organizations like the IMO, Oman is able to stay abreast of the latest industry trends, technologies, and standards. This collaboration also allows Oman to contribute to global maritime initiatives and exchange best practices with other participating countries. As a regional maritime hub, Oman is well-positioned to lead by example and advocate for safe, secure, and sustainable maritime practices in the region and beyond.

The visit by the Secretary General of the IMO to Oman underscores the country’s growing importance in the maritime sector and its commitment to upholding international maritime regulations. By engaging in discussions with IMO officials, Oman is able to showcase its capabilities and expertise in maritime security and safety. The nomination for Category (C) membership in the IMO’s executive council further highlights Oman’s dedication to playing a key role in shaping global maritime policies and initiatives. This recognition will not only enhance Oman’s standing in the international maritime community but also bolster its efforts to ensure safe and efficient sea voyages for all transiting through its waters.

Overall, the meeting between HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said and the Secretary General of the IMO signals a new chapter in Oman’s maritime development journey. With a renewed focus on collaboration, innovation, and sustainability, Oman is poised to strengthen its position as a regional maritime leader and a champion for safe and secure sea navigation. By working hand in hand with international partners like the IMO, Oman is paving the way for a brighter future for its maritime sector and contributing to the global effort to build a safer and more sustainable maritime industry for all.
