Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive currently detained in Nigeria, is facing deteriorating health conditions and is reportedly unable to access his legal team. His family expressed concerns about his well-being, stating that he requires specialized surgery for a herniated disc, as well as treatments for throat infections and pneumonia. Gambaryan, who is held at Kuje prison in Abuja, appeared in a wheelchair during a recent hearing for crypto-related charges. Despite the severity of his health issues, questions remain over the legitimacy of his detainment.

In June, U.S. lawmakers French Hill and Chrissy Houlahan visited Gambaryan in prison and discovered that he was suffering from malaria and double pneumonia. They called for his immediate release on humanitarian grounds and urged the dropping of charges against him. Gambaryan’s next court hearing is scheduled for October 11, leading to increased concerns about his deteriorating health. His lawyers have filed a request for his case to be heard during the judicial holiday, but the release of his medical records is reportedly being delayed by the prison.

Gambaryan was initially detained alongside another Binance employee, Nadeem Anjarwalla, during a meeting with Nigerian officials in February. Both employees were charged with tax evasion and money laundering, although the charges against Anjarwalla have been dropped, and he remains at large. The situation has raised questions about the involvement of U.S. President Joe Biden in assisting Gambaryan’s release as his health continues to worsen. The family’s statement paints a bleak picture of Gambaryan’s health, highlighting the urgent need for medical attention and humanitarian consideration.

The ongoing legal battle and health issues faced by Tigran Gambaryan have garnered attention from the cryptocurrency and regulatory communities. His situation has sparked calls for urgent intervention and advocacy for his release on humanitarian grounds. The concerns raised by U.S. lawmakers and Gambaryan’s family highlight the need for transparency and fair treatment in his case. The delays in accessing medical records and legal representation further compound the challenges faced by Gambaryan in his current situation.

The push for Gambaryan’s release and the dropping of charges against him reflect broader concerns about due process and human rights in international legal proceedings. The involvement of lawmakers and the appeal to higher authorities underscore the gravity of the situation and the urgency of addressing Gambaryan’s health concerns. The contrasting fates of Gambaryan and Anjarwalla, with one remaining in custody while the other evaded capture, raise questions about the fairness and consistency of legal proceedings in such cases.

The complex nature of Gambaryan’s case, intertwined with issues of international law, human rights, and corporate compliance, underscores the challenges faced by individuals caught in legal disputes across borders. The legal and diplomatic efforts to secure Gambaryan’s release highlight the importance of advocacy and intervention in protecting the rights of individuals in vulnerable situations. As the case unfolds, the focus remains on securing timely medical treatment for Gambaryan and ensuring his rights are respected in accordance with legal standards and humanitarian principles.
