Nafis salary support to begin next month, Emirati council says

The Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council announced that the Nafis salary support program will start implementation next month, officials said. The initiative covers salary subsidies for non-Emirati wives of Emirati citizens and for sons and daughters of Emirati mothers working in the private and banking sectors.

The council clarified on Nafis’s official website that financial assistance ranges up to 3,000 dirhams per month, with a minimum payout of 1,000 dirhams, and that applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria and complete registration through the Nafis platform using UAE Pass.

Eligibility and application process for Nafis salary support

According to program guidance published by Nafis, applicants must register via the Nafis portal and verify identity through UAE Pass before submitting a claim. For children of Emirati mothers, the application requires adding the mother’s Emirati ID number for eligibility checks, officials said.

Applicants must be the son or daughter of an Emirati citizen at the time of application and retain that status throughout the support period. Employment must be in private or banking establishments registered with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation or licensed by the Central Bank. Furthermore, beneficiaries need an active, approved employment contract and wage payments processed through the country’s approved payroll systems or the Ministry’s Wage Protection System.

Support details: amounts, salary bands and qualification requirements

Nafis salary support for children of Emirati mothers applies when the employee’s monthly salary ranges from 6,000 to 20,000 dirhams, and beneficiaries must hold at least a bachelor’s degree accredited by the relevant UAE authorities. The program specifies that the monthly subsidy can reach up to 3,000 dirhams, with a minimum benefit of 1,000 dirhams, depending on eligibility and income level.

For non-Emirati wives of Emirati citizens working in the private or banking sectors, Nafis lists five core eligibility conditions: the woman must be married to an Emirati, not hold UAE citizenship, have a monthly salary between 6,000 and 15,000 dirhams, possess a bachelor’s degree accredited by the Ministry of Education or other competent bodies, and either have at least two children with the Emirati spouse or have been married for at least five years.

Exceptions and special categories under the program

The program allows exceptions to the spouse tenure or children-count requirements for four specific categories, subject to meeting other conditions. Exemptions apply to medical professionals holding medical degrees, education sector staff including teachers, holders of doctoral degrees with accreditation, and employees in designated vital occupations in the labor market.

In those cases the minimum marriage duration requirement is reduced to two years, officials stated. Nafis said these measures are intended to prioritize critical skills and sectors while maintaining the program’s broader objective of supporting Emirati family stability.

How to apply and track an application

Nafis has outlined a step-by-step online process. Applicants must sign in to the Nafis platform via UAE Pass, complete the eligibility verification by adding the Emirati spouse or mother’s identity number as appropriate, and then upload the required supporting documents to finalize registration.

Once submitted, applicants can monitor the status of their request from their Nafis account. The council emphasized that documentation and eligibility checks must be completed before a case advances to payment processing, and that employers’ registration with the Ministry or Central Bank is a prerequisite.

Context and implications for the private sector and families

Officials and analysts note the program aligns with broader UAE policies aimed at supporting Emirati families and encouraging private-sector employment among nationals and their immediate dependents. By linking support to registered contracts and the Wage Protection System, the initiative also reinforces formal payroll practices in the private and banking sectors.

Furthermore, the targeted support may ease household financial pressures for mixed-nationality families and enable more women and younger Emiratis to remain in or enter private employment, policymakers said. Employers and human resources teams should ensure compliance with registration and payroll requirements to facilitate beneficiary verification.

What to watch next

The council indicated implementation will begin next month, and prospective beneficiaries should prepare documentation, confirm employer registration with relevant authorities, and create or update UAE Pass-enabled Nafis accounts. Monitoring the Nafis official site and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation for operational updates is advisable.

Observers should watch for initial disbursement timelines and any clarifications or amendments to eligibility rules, particularly regarding exceptions and accreditation of qualifications. The next expected step is the live opening of the application window on Nafis and the start of automated eligibility checks through the platform.
