Oman’s Identity and Civilization Celebrated in Cultural Event

The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, through the Islamic Awareness and Cultural Exchange Division of the Fatwa Office, organized an event titled “My Identity… Oman: Identity and Civilization” in the Al-Mahallab bin Abi Safrah Hall in Ibri. The event, held under the patronage of His Excellency Tahir bin Mebkhout Al-Junaibi, Governor of Al Dhahirah, aims to highlight the essence of Omani identity and culture. It commenced on October 5 and will continue until October 8.

This vibrant event seeks to showcase the fundamental values and characteristics of Omani identity, as well as the contributions of the Omani community in fostering cultural and civilizational exchanges with various nations. It emphasizes elements of Oman’s history related to Islamic advocacy and cultural interchange.

Highlighting Omani Values and Traditions

During the event, Sheikh Dr. Kahlun bin Naban Al-Kharousi, Assistant Grand Mufti of Oman, underscored the significance of authentic Omani principles in light of rapidly changing global ideologies. He stressed that the reinforcement of identity and intrinsic characteristics in Omani society is crucial to counteracting external thought trends that can impact the values of communities and nations.

The opening ceremony included a multimedia presentation outlining the objectives of “My Identity… Oman: Identity and Civilization.” It featured an introduction to the Hidaya Charitable Foundation, which plays a vital role in highlighting Oman’s cultural identity, Islamic advocacy, and supporting new Muslims as well as cultural exchange activities linked to Omani community contributions.

Exhibition Showcasing Omani Heritage

The event also inaugurated the “My Identity” exhibition which features various segments displaying aspects of Oman’s historical and cultural identity. Among these were sections titled “The Virtue of Omani People,” “Oman: Land of Authenticity and Dignity,” and “Messages of the Prophet Muhammad to the Omani People.” Furthermore, it included displays highlighting the influence of Omani values and ethics on traders in promoting Islam.

Additions to the exhibition included a section honoring Dr. Rashid bin Ameera, a notable Omani physician, an informational section about the Islamic faith, and an interactive area designed specifically for children. These components further emphasized the multifaceted nature of Oman’s cultural identity.

Continuing the Cultural Dialogue

The “Oman: Identity and Civilization” event will progress over the remaining days, featuring activities aimed at enhancing awareness about Omani identity and promoting the foundational values that are integral to the Omani character. As cultural dynamics evolve, such initiatives play a crucial role in reinforcing community bonds and fostering respect for diverse civilizations.

Looking ahead, future activities related to the event are expected to continue the dialogue around Omani heritage and traditions. Attendees and participants can look forward to additional exhibitions, discussions, and presentations that will further enrich the understanding of Oman’s place in the global cultural landscape.
