A new reservoir with a storage capacity of 120 million imperial gallons (MIG) has been connected to Dubai’s water network, marking a significant milestone in the efforts to increase water storage capacity in the emirate. This reservoir, located in Enkhali area and built at a cost of Dh287.8 million, is part of a larger plan by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) to enhance water infrastructure. When combined with other reservoirs in Lusaily, Hassyan, and Hatta, the total water storage capacity will reach 1121.3 MIG of desalinated water, compared to the current capacity of 1001.3 MIG. These reservoirs, along with the Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) project for desalinated water, are vital components of Dubai’s water security strategy.

The ASR project for desalinated water has entered its second phase and aims to store up to 6,000 million imperial gallons of water once completed by 2025. According to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa, this will make it the largest ASR of its kind in the world, capable of storing potable water for emergency situations. Al Tayer emphasized that water security is a national priority for the UAE, and the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 is designed to ensure sustainable access to water during normal and emergency conditions, as well as address long-term water security challenges. The completion of these projects will play a crucial role in achieving these goals and ensuring the availability of water resources for the growing population of Dubai.

The construction of the new reservoir in Enkhali is part of a broader initiative by Dewa to enhance water infrastructure and address the increasing water demand in Dubai. By increasing the storage capacity of desalinated water, the emirate will be better equipped to meet the needs of its residents and businesses, especially during periods of high water consumption. The completion of this reservoir, along with the ongoing development of other water storage facilities, demonstrates Dubai’s commitment to ensuring water security and sustainability for future generations.

The strategic location of the new reservoir in Enkhali will further strengthen the resilience of Dubai’s water network and improve the efficiency of water distribution across the emirate. By strategically placing these reservoirs in key locations, Dewa can ensure a reliable and consistent water supply to residential, commercial, and industrial areas, even during peak demand periods. This proactive approach to water resource management is essential for ensuring the long-term sustainability of Dubai’s water infrastructure and minimizing the impact of water shortages on the community.

The integration of the new reservoir in Enkhali with existing water storage facilities in Lusaily, Hassyan, and Hatta will create a more interconnected and efficient water network in Dubai. By harmonizing the operations of these reservoirs, Dewa can optimize water storage and distribution processes, ensuring that water resources are used effectively and sustainably. This interconnected system will play a crucial role in supporting Dubai’s continued growth and development, providing a reliable and secure source of water for the emirate’s residents, businesses, and essential services.

In conclusion, the completion of the new reservoir in Enkhali marks a significant advancement in Dubai’s efforts to enhance water security and sustainability. By increasing water storage capacity and investing in innovative water storage technologies like the ASR project, Dewa is reinforcing its commitment to ensuring a reliable and consistent water supply for the emirate. These initiatives are vital for addressing the water security challenges faced by Dubai and will play a pivotal role in achieving the goals of the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036. As Dubai continues to grow and develop, a resilient and efficient water infrastructure will be essential for supporting the needs of its population and ensuring a prosperous future for the emirate.
