The General Referendum Committee in Doha has completed all necessary procedures for holding the referendum on constitutional amendments for 2024 in Qatar. The amendments aim to affirm the cohesion between the Qatari people and their leader, as well as the importance of national unity, social cohesion, and steadfastness in upholding good values and national principles. The amendments have been widely welcomed by the Qatari people, highlighting the constructive cooperation between legislative and executive authorities in implementing the vision of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

The constitutional amendments reflect the deep faith and great confidence of the Qatari citizens in their wise leadership. The amendments aim to apply the principles of justice and the rule of law in all areas of life, and to achieve the aspirations of the Qatari citizen towards a better future in a safe, socially cohesive homeland that is free of divisions. The General Referendum Committee seeks to facilitate the voting process to ensure the success of the referendum, with polling stations open from 7:00 am to 17:00 pm. Two methods of voting, direct voting by casting a paper ballot or electronically using iPads, and remote voting using the “Metrash2” app, will be allowed in the referendum.

The constitutional amendments include alterations to various articles of the Permanent Constitution of the State of Qatar, as well as the addition of new articles and the repeal of others. The proposed amendments aim to strengthen the democratic political system of Qatar, uphold the principles of justice, equality, and the rule of law, and promote equal citizenship in rights and duties. The amendments also include provisions related to the powers and functions of the Amir, the composition and functioning of the Shura Council, and the electoral system in Qatar.

The referendum on the constitutional amendments serves as a significant milestone in the long-standing relationship of communication and consultation between the leader and the people of Qatar. This relationship is governed by deep-rooted customs and traditions that emphasize the shared responsibility of all citizens in actively participating in the country’s development and growth. The referendum represents an opportunity for the Qatari people to express their love and adherence to their homeland, as well as their aspirations for progress and advancement.

In conclusion, the constitutional amendments being put to the vote in the referendum reflect the commitment of the Qatari leadership and people to upholding national unity, social cohesion, and the principles of justice and equality. The amendments aim to further strengthen the democratic political system and governance in Qatar, while also promoting the active participation of citizens in shaping the country’s future. The referendum on the amendments is a key moment for the Qatari people to reaffirm their commitment to their homeland and contribute to its continued development and prosperity.
