India’s coal production for April 2024 has shown a significant increase of 7.41 per cent compared to the same period last year, with a total production of 78.69 million tonnes (MT) (Provisional). This positive growth trend in the country’s coal sector was announced by the Ministry of Coal, indicating a strong performance by the industry.

During April 2024, Coal India Limited (CIL), the state-owned coal mining company, achieved a coal production of 61.78 MT (Provisional), marking a growth of 7.31 per cent compared to the previous year. This increase in production by CIL has played a significant role in driving the overall growth of the coal sector in India.

In addition to CIL’s production, coal production by Captive/others in April 2024 stood at 11.43 MT (Provisional), showing a robust growth of 12.99 per cent from the previous year. This indicates that not only CIL but also other players in the industry have contributed to the increased coal production in the country.

India’s coal dispatches for April 2024 also saw a significant rise, reaching 85.10 MT (Provisional), which is an increase of 6.07 per cent compared to the same period last year. This increase in coal dispatches is crucial for meeting the energy demands of various sectors in the country, including power, steel, cement, and others.

During April 2024, CIL dispatched 64.26 MT (Provisional) of coal, with a growth of 3.18 per cent compared to the previous year. Additionally, coal dispatch by Captive/others in April was recorded at 15.16 MT (Provisional), reflecting a significant growth of 26.90 per cent from the previous year.

The Ministry of Coal has been actively focusing on enhancing coal production and efficiency in the coal sector to meet the growing energy demands of the country. The strong performance of the coal sector in April 2024, driven by increased production and dispatches by both CIL and Captive/others, is a positive sign for India’s energy security and economic growth.
