In a press statement, the Ministry of Finance said Kuwait’s participation reflects its commitment to strengthening international cooperation, exchanging expertise in economic and financial policies, and contributing to discussions on supporting emerging economies amid global economic challenges. The conference, held under the theme “Aligning Policies to Support Emerging Economies Amidst Global Challenges Related to Trade and Monetary Policy”, focused on the financial and economic policies of emerging markets and developing economies. Dialogue sessions addressed key themes including the reshaping of global trade, the impact of global uncertainty on international monetary and financial systems, monetary policy amid structural transformations, fiscal policy in a shock-prone world, private sector-led growth, and the role of the state in enhancing resilience and economic transformation.

The Kuwaiti delegation included, in addition to Minister Al-Refai, Sheikh Saud Salem Al-Sabah, Managing Director of the Kuwait Investment Authority, and Saad Al-Alati, Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Services at the Ministry of Finance. The conference brought together finance ministers, central bank governors, policymakers, international organization leaders, and experts from academia and the private sector. It was jointly organized by the Saudi Ministry of Finance and the International Monetary Fund.On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Al-Refai met with his Saudi counterpart, Mohammed Al-Jadaan, and held separate meetings with Sherard Cowper-Coles, Vice President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and Dr Abdulhamid Al-Khalifa, Director-General and CEO of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID). Sheikh Saud Salem Al-Sabah also attended the meetings, which focused on enhancing cooperation in financial and development initiatives.
