Bahraini citizens living abroad have the opportunity to participate in the upcoming by-election for the Council of Representatives in the First Electoral Constituency in Muharraq. The registration period for overseas voters will take place between August 19 and 21, 2024. Citizens can register online through the election website or visit their nearest embassy, consulate, or diplomatic mission to sign up to vote.

Bahrain’s diplomatic missions around the world will be open to assist citizens in checking and adding their names to the voter list for the First Electoral District, ensuring that they are eligible to vote in the upcoming election. Ambassador Ibrahim Al Meslimani, who oversees Consular Services at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has confirmed that diplomatic missions are prepared to help citizens through every step of the by-election process, from verifying voter registration to election day itself.

Each embassy, consulate, and diplomatic mission will establish a committee, led by the ambassador or mission chief and two other officials, to oversee the voting and counting process in each country. The election day is scheduled for Tuesday, September 3, 2024, with a potential rerun on September 10. Voting hours will be from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time. The by-election will be conducted according to the regulations outlined in Resolution No. 65 of 2024 by HE Nawaf Al Maawda, the Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs, and Waqf.

Overseas Bahraini citizens are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to have their voices heard in the by-election. The process for registration and voting is user-friendly, allowing citizens to register online or visit their local diplomatic mission to participate. With the support of Bahrain’s diplomatic missions worldwide, citizens can ensure that they are properly registered and ready to cast their vote in the upcoming election.

The by-election for the First Electoral Constituency in Muharraq presents an important opportunity for Bahraini citizens living abroad to actively engage in the democratic process and make their voices heard. The government has taken steps to facilitate overseas voting, with diplomatic missions set to assist citizens in registering and voting for the election. Ambassador Ibrahim Al Meslimani has emphasized the readiness of Bahrain’s diplomatic missions to support citizens throughout the entire by-election process and ensure a smooth and transparent voting process for all participants.

As per the regulations set forth in Resolution No. 65 of 2024, overseas voting will be conducted in accordance with the established rules to ensure fairness and accuracy in the election process. Ambassador-led committees at each diplomatic mission will oversee the voting and counting process, providing transparency and oversight to guarantee that every vote is counted accurately. With Election Day set for September 3, 2024, and a potential rerun scheduled for September 10, Bahraini citizens abroad have the opportunity to play a significant role in shaping the future of their country through active participation in the by-election.
