A ministerial committee, led by the Minister of Interior, is being called for by MP Dr. Maryam Al Dhaen to regulate the recruitment and housing of workers in Bahrain. The initiative aims to ensure societal safety, protect workers’ rights, and highlight Bahrain’s commitment to human rights. Dr. Al Dhaen emphasized that organizing workers’ housing does not infringe on their rights but seeks to enhance living conditions in line with health and security standards. This initiative balances economic development, workers’ welfare, and citizens’ needs, contributing to societal stability and reinforcing Bahrain’s image as a rights-respecting nation.

Highlighting the Ministry of Interior’s role, Dr. Al Dhaen commended its efforts in swiftly addressing complaints, particularly those concerning unethical behaviour in family areas. The Ministry has developed strategies to prevent recurrent housing issues and aims to establish designated housing that upholds the privacy and safety of residential neighborhoods while offering workers a secure environment. Dr. Al Dhaen stressed the importance of maintaining health and safety standards in workers’ housing, especially in areas separate from family zones. She pointed out challenges in areas like Isa Town, where labor housing has led to cleanliness issues and cultural clashes, affecting the local social fabric.

In April 2024, Dr. Al Dhaen proposed constructing vertical housing for workers, advocating for dedicated spaces that respect cultural differences and minimize societal disruptions. She warned that unresolved issues could have long-term political and economic impacts. The Ministerial committee, led by H.E. General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, is seen as crucial in addressing these issues and ensuring the well-being of workers in Bahrain. This initiative not only aims to protect workers’ rights but also contributes to societal stability and reinforces Bahrain’s image as a nation that respects human rights.

As Bahrain continues to develop economically, it is essential to also prioritize the welfare of workers and address issues related to their housing and living conditions. By establishing a ministerial committee to oversee these matters, led by the Minister of Interior, Bahrain is taking a step towards creating a more rights-respecting nation. Dr. Al Dhaen’s proposal for vertical housing for workers, with a focus on respecting cultural differences and minimizing disruptions, reflects a forward-thinking approach to ensuring the well-being of all residents in Bahrain, while also considering long-term implications on the political and economic landscape.

In conclusion, the call for a ministerial committee to regulate the recruitment and housing of workers in Bahrain is a critical step towards promoting societal safety, protecting workers’ rights, and highlighting Bahrain’s commitment to human rights. By addressing issues related to workers’ housing, the initiative aims to enhance living conditions, uphold health and security standards, and contribute to societal stability. With the support of the Ministry of Interior and the leadership of H.E. General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Bahrain is working towards maintaining a rights-respecting nation that prioritizes the well-being of all its residents.
